What would you do?
I left my house today without my purse. I was driving without driver’s license and money.
After 30 miles I run out of gas, so I pulled to gas station.
Than, OMG, where is my purse, what to do?
I was lucky to have my phone in my packet.
What would you do?

I never leave home without my purse, and I have everything in it (except the Kitchen Sink because it can't fit.) My husband is the driver and he keep a little money, small change though. He also makes sure to fill the tank before it becomes empty. And I was wondering what you would do if you did not have your cell phone with you? Then you would have to walk the whole thirty miles back. The next time you should always take your purse with you and then fill up the tank when there is just a quarter of a tank left.

I would have called someone close to me through my cell phone and asked for his help. Else, I would have requested the owner of Gas station to help, with the promise that I would come back to pay the dues, and would have given him all my contact numbers so as to make him secure that I am genuine person.

This is what I did. On my site was a fact that I was going for the meeting, so I was wearing business outfit, plus I am driving luxury car and it helps as well.
I always have bunch of business cards in my car.
I went to gas station and I told owner what happen. I gave him my business card and ask him the question:
How can you help me?
He gave me 5 gallons of gasoline. He also said: "it is not a big deal, I was happy to help. Don't even think to come back, it is too far. Give the money for Christmas donation."
So, once back home, I send a check for animal shelter on behave of gas station owner.
I send him a thank you card with info about donation.
Life is not only about money and some people know how to help with style.

Dear Pola, You did the smart job. You showed your presence of mind at that time. You could impress the Gas Station Owner with your impressive personality and presented your case in an honest manner.
It is really heartening to know that the Owner did not ask you to come back there and pay the money. Most probably, he would have concluded that you are a genuine person/good soul and you in fact needed help from him.
Another fine gestures on your part ...that you paid the donation on his behalf and sent him a 'Thank-You' Card too. Your gesture must be highly appreciated and this shows that there are still HONEST and SINCERE persons in this world, who believe in keeping their words.
Last but not the least, THANKS soooooooooo much for selecting my response as the Best one. I am overwhelmed by your gesture. You are really great!
Have a great day!
Deepak

since I put everything in my purse, business cards and all that, I really don't think I would have much choice than walk. I don't have a cell and the only thing in the car is insurance information and some change. I'll go to nearest bus station and wait there for the bus, if I have enough change for bus fare. If I don't have enough, I will keep on walking and sit wherever there is a bench or dry spot.

I can imagine that, but this is what will happen in my case since I don't have a cell

I wouldn't run out of gas.
I've never done that.
I freak out when my car gets remotely close to E and usually try to fill it up by a quarter of a tank.
I have left my house without my purse though. I usually drive cautiously and go home asap to get my purse. My phone is always in my purse so I'd be screwed if that happened and I'd have to ask someone for change or the chance to use their phone and hope that my parents are home cause I don't know anyone elses numbers by heart.

That reminds me I once ran out of gas at a stop light on a corner right across the street from a gas station. How lucky was that! My gas hand was off so it was hard to really know how much gas I had. I tried to keep a close eye on it but I guess that day I just lucked out.

my tank was showing 1/4 when I left, 30 miles is not that much, I new that I can not make it back home on low gas for sure....
I will say what I did after few responds....
It sounds crazy, but may help others...

Yeah your post reminded me that I actually always have change in my car. So I could at least make a phone call on a payphone. Not much else.
Oh and another answer is that you could get a cab to your house...cause you don't have to pay till you get your purse and hey you don't have the cash? Cab it to the bank and then back to your car. it'll probably cost you a fortune though.

I am glad that you had your phone. I would have called some of my family and asked them to bring money.

Well I have done this very same thing. I wan't that far from home but the people didn't know me. I did not discover I had no money until I had filled the tank.
So I went in and told them my problem, gave them my drivers lincense so they knew I would be back and went home to get the money. Because they had no choice they took it. That was a major lesson for me however and I never did that again.

If you sub wallet for purse, I had a similar experience, and that was here in Thailand. Fortunately, I stopped the pump before the cost became too high. I left my watch as security and went home for my wallet.
It is very embarrassing.

Oh geez...that would be a hard one. I dont leave without my phone normally either so I would have just phoned someone to go back to my house. But if you couldnt get anyone, it would have been a waiting game...or a long walk. LOL Nothing else you really could do. Unless you live in a small community like I do, and they make have given you 5 bucks in gas taking your word you would come back before they closed and pay it. :)

Hi polachicago! Oh my gosh what a predicament. hehe..I think i will call on my husband to bring me some money and my purse and if i can't contact him, i will be calling everyone until i find someone who can lend me some money to pay for the gas. hehe..Take care and have a nice day. :)

I had no money and no credit card because I had unknowingly used my last check up. They kept my driver's license while I gased up and went home, got another check and came back. I was on empty, so I had do do something.
Another posibility, now, but not then, is my extended triple A does go for gas if you run out in a pinch. Take care.

That's why I always keep a little money in the car. It's not much probably only $5 but that money can sure come in handy in a situation like that. Thank goodness you had your phone. depending on how far away from home I was calling my by would be no use because we only have one car so it's not like he would drive there to meet me. I guess I'd just have to leave a note on my car and walk home.
