Tragic news

My husband came home from work today, and was acting really funny. I asked what was wrong, he proceeded to tell me that a friend of his from work, lost his son. Apparently, they were deer hunting, it was the opening of the season. His son seen a deer and shot at it, his dad thought he had missed, and shot also. He looked up and his son had collapsed on the ground. He had been on one of the tree stands. From what they were told at work, his son apparently held the gun wrong and when it kicked back, it crushed his ribs and crushed his lungs. They called for help, but when help came, they had to call for a different vehicle that could get in the woods. They took him to the hospital and transferred him to a bigger hospital and he passed away there. The child was only 12 years old. I hope that if anyone else is taking their kids hunting, they read this and go over all the safety precautions with their kids. That father is going to have to live with this the rest of his life. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

The father must be going through hell right now. Apart from the loss of his son he has to deal with the feeling of guilt, which is probably going to haunt him for a long time. I donĀ“t even want to imagine what state the mother must be in. I would be absolutely devastated. XXX Dana

This is very sad to read of. I know that the father will have a time trying to deal with this. I personally do not feel that a child should handle a rifle at all, for any reason. To me, twelve years old is much to young. There is a certain amount of coordination you need when handling any weapon. It is just not a good idea to me.

I'm so sorry to hear that. That is terrible. I couldn't imagine how that father must feel. We just had an accident here that was similar to that. It was father and son too, but they were much older. Again, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'll keep them in my prayers. Try to have a good day.

That is horrible. I will also keep the family in my prayers. I cannot imagine such a tradegy. I know something like this seems to happen every year. My dad is a hunter and he got his deer yesterday so at least he is one less worry. But there are hunters all over where I live and I really do hope they are cautious.

This really is tragic news Thoroughrob. My heart and prayers go for your husband's friend and his family. I hate to say it, but I think having a child so young going out hunting is just asking for disaster though. Even grown people can have fatal accidents while hunting. I'm beginning to think there should be a law or something about minimum age for hunting like they do for driving or drinking...don't you? Sometimes makes me wonder how many other tragedies there have been like this
