Who's your country's current president? What do you like and/or dislike about him/her and the way he/she runs your country? How would you rate him/her and why?

George Bush is "president".I don't like anything about him.He has done a terrible job as president but I didn't expect much from him anyway. All the good presidents either get killed. Or they are almost impeached like Clinton.

If I may ask, sarahruthbeth, what rating would you give him? Just out of curiosity, too, who among the current aspirants for the presidency (democrat or republican) would you support? Thanks a lot for openly sharing your views and Happy myLotting! ;)

I am a democrat so I would like to see the next president to be a democrat.I don't have a favorite candidate. As long as he/she is pro-choice, they will be okay by me.I rate Bush as a 2 out of 10.

To be sure, some may agree with your statements--hook line, and sinker. Nevertheless, some (i.e. supporters of GMA, those who benefit from her presidency, and perhaps even ordinary Filipinos who genuinely feel, for whatever reason they may have, that she's doing not so bad a job) may feel that your statements are too sweeping. So, to clarify, specifically what of her policies stink and exactly in what way has she "made this country even poorer," satansoldat_666? What rating would you give her and why? Thanks a lot in advance for the clarification and Happy myLotting! ;)

Mrs. Prathibha Patil is the president. In Indian democratic set up, president is only a figure head, head of the nation, commands the respect of supreme forces like Air Force, Navy and Army. All governmental activities requires consent from the president. I do not like the president so much because she has come from a political party rather than from among the eminent personalities. Secondly because of her political affiliation, she tends to be more leaning towards the party in power. We had a great president by name ABDUL KALAM who is a scientist, great lover of knowledge, great lover of children and their education, least controversial person, by far he is totally unbiased and impartial in his judgements. He retired this year.

In my view, a person who holds highest post, should be honest, person of integrity, should have a clean record, should set an good example for all citizens and above all, he should have thorough knowledge of international events, because that person represents the country at international level. There were great presidents in India in the past like S. Radhakrishnan, a philosopher and man of eminence, R. Venkataraman (though came from a political party) and recently Dr. Abdul Kalam. I consider most politicians as scoundrels.

Would I be correct in saying then that the main reasons why you do not like your current president so much are: 1. the fact that she came from a political party and is not among the "eminent personalities"; and 2. she has a greater propensity to be biased towards the party in power? Would I also be right in saying that all the politicians in your country who come from political parties are necessarily not as qualified as those who could be considered as "eminent personalities," ssh123? Before you answer my question, though, kindly clarify precisely what you mean when you say "eminent personalities," if possible. Thanks a lot for being very accommodating and for your very insightful post! Happy myLotting! ;)

Honesty, integrity, and cleanliness of record in public service, among others, I must fully agree, are very good criteria to determine whether a leader is perfect to occupy the highest post of the land. It's really nice to know that there are still public servants and statesmen such as the ones you've mentioned who could set themselves apart from "most politicians" whom you consider as "scoundrels" and do their best to be accountable for their actions. Hopefully, though, these "eminent personalities" could grow in number and not just learn to go with the flow or join the "scoundrels" (if you cannot beat 'em, join 'em mentality), if not become extinct, in order to bring forth positive changes and truly represent and serve the people they swore to lead and serve when they took their oaths of office. Thanks a lot for your clarification and Happy myLotting, ssh123! ;)

my president at now is a male. his name is Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono but our people usually called him "Mr. SBY" its stand from his long name. so far, he is quite good to handle my country but still as like another previous president, he cant be brave enough to solve and finish any problem in my country. i believe there is very strong "power" behind my government so it makes the president should be carefull with anything. you know, in politics always having unseing power which actually handling everything without realizing. if you asked me to give him rate, i will prefer to give him rate in 7.5 mark

i giving rate 7.5 its just my subjective mark from me. so no basic reason which should be considering in here. but those mark i gave to him coz during his period, the freedom to reveal opinion, idea, and pers really work. its not like the previous government. but coz of very complicated problem in past, he seem cant do anything much in here (lots of person who related with those problem already retired or gone to somewhere)

Based on your assessment of his performance, would it be proper to say then that, to a certain extent, he's more democratic, since he respects freedom of expression more, than his predecessor? Also, given that, as you've recognized, your country's current problems are so complicated that your president alone could obviously not solve it, what are the steps he's undertaking, if any, in order to establish more collaboration and cooperation among his fellow government leaders and the public at large to find solutions to your country's complicated problems? Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and Happy myLotting, plumwish07! ;)

I must agree with you that presidents have great powers and, as such, they must take full responsibility for their actions, given that they're accountable to their constituents as well. They must also be truly cognizant of their actions, be it political or not, especially since they are the highest leaders of their respective countries--the figureheads who contribute to, if not define, the reputation of their mother/fatherlands, especially in the international community. Just to know more about "Mr. SBY" and to clarify your statement though, plumwish07, exactly in what aspects of his governance/leadership of your country do you find him "quite good" and precisely what criteria, if any, did you use in giving him a 7.5 mark? Thanks a lot for your much appreciated contribution to this discussion and Happy myLotting! ;)

Hi, zup Bro. I've read the responces here about our President. Well, I agree with some. She's a good president but she's got bad company. Wel, as the saying goes; "Tell me who you friends(company) are and I'll tell you who you are." She's got 5 out of 10 from me. You know why? First, she didn't do so much to clean up the "mess", you know. She must have reprimand her husband for the mess he did. But I don't see any thing she's done for that. And second, she's a woman. I'm not discriminating but I prefer a man to be a leader. Thanks.

Our current president is Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. She is a very short girl yet she's tough in her decisions. Only her husband makes her name bad. She has got a husband who is corrupt and use her to corrupt the money of the people. She should watch closely her family for making mistakes for she might go to jail like the president of the last administration. I hope that we get a president to get beheaded for corruption for others to be honest for their position.

Considering the current state of Philippine affairs with GMA at the helm, do you still believe in your statement that "Only her husband makes her name bad, MisterPlus? Also, are you still hoping that "we get a president to get beheaded for corruption for others to be honest for their position," and if so, who can you suggest we start with? Seriously, though, do you really believe that beheading a president would necessarily jolt other officials to become honest? Thanks and Happy myLotting!

xd14keilrisker, if I'm correct, I think he wants to say that a president should be beheaded for corruption so that other officials will take their positions seriously and be honest public servants. I might be wrong, though.

My country's current president is Barack Obama. I like the fact that he's a community organizer by trade and the fact that he seems more interested in talking to people rather than blowing stuff up.

My country's current president is Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. My comments on her and her performance, well aside from being physically short, she is a strong woman. There are a lot of issues that are involving her or her husband but despite of that she is still serving the country the best that she can.

Hello acmepride, I would like to say that I admire our previous prime minister very much compares to the present one. For your information, I am from Malaysia. For me, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed was the best Prime Minister that we ever had. He was a great leader and I respect him very much. He is such a great Father for Malaysians.

Our country's current president is Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. A lot of people doesnt agree with the way she runs the country and who can blame them? There are also lots of controversies surrounding her term as President. On the other hand, she did contribute a whole lot of economic improvements on our country. I think being a President is the toughest job to have. Whatever you do you will always have critics. I give her a fair 6.5.

Where in my country our president is Traian Basescu. But our society is a little different than yours. I'm not good at politics and I don't even care about our president because the same things happen or don't happen. Who and what we vote doesn't change a thing. I simply don't pay attention to what is going through the political plan.

Contrary to popular belief, I support my President! The things I like about President Bush are,he doesn't give in easily! He seen the thousands of people that Hussien had murdered, and was going to continue, just like Hitler was going to do until he was stopped! And if we had not intervened Hussien would have continued! He sees, and is aware of the goal of the Al Quiada to conquer the world, and kill anyone that goes against them, and hasn't backed down! What I don't like about him is that he doesn't let the military have more control of the war! He needs to let them go and get the people that caused 911, and all the other attacks, and clean them out, and that includes their buddies that are helping them! A lot of people don't see the disaster of the US pulling out of Iraq! Those terrorists are going to continue, until they are stopped! We need to pull out of the United Nations, I think we are being stabbed in the back,by certain ones!

Hi acmepride! We are from the same country. So we both know that our president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is doing her best to save our economy and fight corruption and that is according to her and her press people. haha..But I do agree that somehow she did something good for the economy. I just don't like the people around her, especially her husband who is very corrupt. I really don't know how to rate her at this time. Maybe if she will file a legal separation from her husband , I might give her a positive rating. LOL! Take care and have a nice day. :)

Our Irish president is Mary McAleese. She is in her second term as president. She doesnt really have any say in the running of the country at all. She would only be a figure-head so to speak. The Irish presidency is not political in any way. :-)
