I enjoy cooking for my wife and kids. My wife enjoys cooking for me and the kids. We don't eat takeaway's or junk foods and store bought foods. We find it easier to prepare and cook food at home. But we see more and more people who think you are strange if you cook at home!! Is home cooking dying out and store bought tv/ready meals taking its place? And why,if people don't cook do we see huge fancy kitchens with top of the range cookers and food preparation areas when all thats needed is a dishwasher, plate rack and a microwave?

Well i wasn't aware so many people don't cook at home these days, i mean i would surely be tired of eating out everyday. Whoever has said there's nothing better than a simple home made meal, has said the truth. We are a small family just the three of us but rarely do we order food from outside or just heat and eat microwave food. Since I am at home, I cook fresh meals twice a days and we eat out occasionally, close to once a month when a change is needed.

Nah, not strange at all.
I have home-cooked food most days. I think it is only strange when both husband and wife are working.
In that case, it is commendable that you still have time and energy to whip up meals at home. Way to go! :)

I love buying convenience food but the truth is that real food is much more healthier. Convenience food is for when you don't have time to make something special at home or if there is noone at home to make something. I think that we should eat more real home food than just convenience food as most of us do.

I cook most of the time for my family, and my husband does once in a while. I would say that on average we have take out or ready meals-convenience food- about once or twice a month. Not only is it less expensive and better for you to cook from scratch, I really enjoy it. I am not a gourmet, but I am learning and I am getting pretty good. My husband and son love it.
I think people don't cook anymore because it takes too much precious time. Time that could be spent at work or taking the children to one of their many extra curricular activities. When both parents work and the children have activities, they don't get home until dinner time pretty often, and then there's nothing to do but nuke something. It is sad, really. Some of my most precious time with my family is sitting down to a nice homecooked meal together. The only thing better is when we cook together.
As for the fancy kitchens, they are a status symbol. It looks good when guests are over, and it makes the house more valuable when selling. Not sure why that is, since the next family who buys it probably won't use it either. Man, what I could do in a kitchen like that!
