Do you carry pepper spray in your purse?

In some states, here in the US, Mace is illegal. So, some of my friends carry pepper spray. I don't think it's as effective as Mace, but it's certainly not pleasant either. I've always thought that I'd carry pepper spray with me in my purse if I had to be outdoors after dark.
I'm not sure that I would. Hopefully I won't ever have to be outside after dark. But, if I did, it would be nice to know that I had some slim margin of self protection against the bad guys. Would you ever carry pepper spray or a stun gun in your purse or car if you had to be out at night by yourself?

I have not found it necessary to carry pepper spray or mace when I am out after dark. I do not carry a purse, either. I live in a small town, and feel pretty safe. I know of some alarming things that have happened, but they are very unusual. I love being out after dark and taking walks and looking at houses, and trees, and stars. Now when I lived near San Diego, it was a different story altogether. When hubby had duty I slept with the phone right there, and with a hammer under my pillow. I figured I could always hit someone really hard if I needed to. I did not go out often after dark there, and that was thirty years ago.

A hammer! I like that one. I would not have thought of it.

I have never carried pepper spray or mace in my purse. I have never put any kind of dangerous substance in my purse actually.
I have four young children who refuse to believe that my purse is off-limits to them. After all, there is some really fun stuff in there they can get into! Make-up and gum, ink pens and pictures, my cell phone; all stuff that they seem to find irresistable.
I try to keep it put up but I don't ever want to take the chance that they get something that would really hurt them out of it.
That said, I haven't ever felt like I needed to carry personal protection. We don't live in an area with a high crime rate. I rarely go out at night without my husband and I never go alone.

No, And I do not know anything about that. I do not bring that. I dont know if there is such thing here in my country, I am not sure about it.
But as I have read the other response, I think its better for self protection with the bad guys around. I hope I could buy one here. This is really the first time that I heard about that...

it is always good to have a can of pepper spray with you at all time because people need to have a sense of security so they don't think every minute that they are going to be killed.

I used to but after having kids even with the little safety switch I didn't want to risk it. It is also good to keep bedside and you can spray it in a hallway if you thought someone was in your house and it would be like a barrier they could not get through, giving you more time to escape or get to a phone. I always have my keys between my knuckles and my hand on the panic button of the car!
