I was just reading an article in the Hallmark Magazine and found a wonderful idea. A woman is using heirloom quality costume jewelry, specifically clip-on earrings, to decorate her Christmas Tree. I find the idea intrigueing and enchanting. What a wonderful way to use that lovely costume jewelry with all the sparkly rhinestones. The article says she just clips the earrings to the tree branches. I am always finding boxes of cheap costume jewelry at Thrift Stores and Antique stores. I even have some with missing stones I allow my granddaughter to play dress up with. I think the longer necklaces could be strung on the trees branches also as makeshift garland. Oh my, I am so excited to give this a try. My mom has a very small tree she sets out because us kids insisted there should be a tree at grandma's house when the younger kids are over or during the big family gathering there. I am going to suggest this idea to her.

It certainly is a unique idea. Something I would consider if I were younger and just starting out on my own with my own place to decorate. I have made sure that every year my children have had a new ornament in their stocking (preferably with their name on it) so that when they are out on their own they will have enough to decorate their tree with. But the ornaments aren't getting any cheaper. Your idea sounds pretty thrifty.

NOw why would yu need to be younger to decorate a christmas tree? I have a friend that has a big tree in the family room and a small tree in every room of the house. Each smaller tree is themed. This idea sounds like a theme to me.

I know some people have a tree in every room with different themes but I don't have the space to put all decorations out as most of them have to sit on table space. I don't care much for decorating anymore.

But sometimes the kids will have small ones in their bedrooms.

I saw something like this last year, and you are right, its a great idea - well, if you have a small xmas tree. My cats already love my jewelry, don't need to tempt them with a tree full of it now do I?

Thats a great idea, I would of never thought about something like that. I have a small tree that I use in my office and I really need some ornaments so this might just work.

What a great idea. I am always looking for unique ways of decorating the tree. I made these decorations last year, what a complete failure. It involved styrofoam and toothpicks and I am still finding the toothpicks around the house! This sounds like an easy way of doing it. Now I feel like going to all the thrift stores in town!

i think that is an awesome idea. it'll be unique and i bet you'll have fun putting your tree together. my tree is a bit unique too this time coz im using cellphone charms (which is a craze here in the philippines) made of seed beads in red/orange/gold colors. i actually made the charms myself and it sure gave my tree some character. i plan to give it out as gifts to family and friends and they get to choose which one's they want. :) Happy Holidays!
