I heard on the news this morning that an Ohio woman went to a local police station to inquire about giving up custody of her one year old. When she was attempting to leave the station wihtout giving "pertinant information" the officer on duty tasered her! Without judging this woman..like why on earth would she want to give up her one year old? Why didn't she use precautions to avoid becoming pregnant when she obviodsly doesn't want her other kid anyway?, etc..Do you think the use of a taser was justified in this situation? I don't. I think the police are getting a little too "taser happy", however it does beat the alternative of just shooting people.

I agree, cops are getting taser happy. I have a friend of mine who's going to be staying with us for a little while till he gets on his feet again because of going through an awfully nasty divorce who's been tasered by the police over faulse accusations. He has marks on his chest, back, stomach and forehead from them overly tasering him.
AND it's the very reason I don't watch the tv program called Cops because they act all bad @ss rough and tough guys and put their knees on a submissive person and ground their heads into the ground or even concrete. There's no need for that when someone is being submissive however I can understand when someone is not but they do it to everybody and act all macho which makes me wanna puke. It's no wonder cops have such a terrible reputation.

This world is going to hell in a hand basket. It's become a sad place to live when a cop throws on his lights and we're being told that we don't have to pull over until we get to a public area for protection. If we can't trust a cop then who can we trust?

All I can say is WOW! I can't believe the officer did that and to a pregnant woman. That's some pretty serious stuff. The voltage on those tasers are harsh and for a pregnant woman can be very dangerous! Obviously there wasn't a lot of brain power used by the officer on duty. I don't think it warranted a taser attack honestly. He could have corralled her with a cuople of other officers to keep her from leaving before he got the information. I mean for God's sake she's pregnant, it's not like she can take off sprinting like an Olympic runner! Not to mention she was there to find out information on finding alternatives for her child, it's not like she was a threat.

I think it is terrible that she was tasered. I don't agree with her wanting to give up one of her children while being pregnant with another, but that's not the point. Just because the cop didn't agree with this didn't mean he (or was it a she?) had the right to do this. I could see if she was resisting arrest or being violent, but to get tasered because she wants to give up her child? That's just crazy!
In my opinion the cop was wrong.

A lot of cops are getting taser happy these days and it's a sad thing to see. There is no way they can justify tasering a pregnant woman regardless of why she was there. What did they think she would do? maliciously and intentionally go into labor at them? muck up their shiny floor or something?
I think that the cops need to back away from using tasers so much, especially when it's evident that the person they want to talk to isn't going anywhere faster than snails pace.
I'm sure I actually heard about a petition to stop the police using them except in extreme conditions that force them to. If you can find it, it'd be worthwhile signing I think.

I can answer one of your questions for you. Why would she want to give up her one year old? She told the officer that she was tired of dealing with the child's father and she just wanted to get "rid" of the child. As for the officer tasering her. From what they are saying is that the mother was already sitting down at the desk when the officer came in to the room. He couldn't tell that she was pregnant because she was already sitting down with a bulky winter coat on as well as having the child sitting on her lap. The officer wanted her to explain what was going on to make her want to surrender the child. The mother got upset and was just going to walk out with the child. The two officers didn't feel that it was safe to allow her to leave with the child.
I don't feel that tasering was the right thing for this officer to do. There were other alternatives. However, I do know if they allowed this mother to leave with the child and she hurt the child in some way then people would be just as outraged at the officer because he didn't stop her. So in a way the officer was in a catch twenty two.

I haven't heard about this one, but that is crazy! It does seem like police officers are always in the news about using the tasers in wrong situations and such. Maybe they need to have more training and more ideas of who not to use them on. I know our police officers in our town did a day of getting tasered themselves to be more aware of the power and all that. I have not heard any bad stories about tasers and police officers using them badly in our town. But, something seems like it needs to be done to keep the who world from outlawing tasers, I am sure there are many instances that they are needed, but some of the time in the news it seems like something else could have been done.

That's crazy. I can't believe that...its horrible. The cops shouldnt have done that. I 100% agree that cops are getting taser happy and someone should do something about it.
