When should kids start learning about music?

My little kid is constantly asking for a musical keyboard to play. But, since she's only a preschooler, I'm concerned that she's just too young for such a sophisticated musical instrument. Of course they do have the kiddie keyboards and she could play with those. But, I've been thinking that maybe I'm holding her back. And, maybe it is time to introduce musical concepts. Other kids her age, in preschool, are doing advanced stuff, so why not? When do you think kids should start learning to play a musical instrument like a keyboard or piano or guitar? Can you ever start too early?

The earlier the better! My mother is a professional pianist/organist and she also gives private lessons. According to my mother and her music buddies, the earlier a child is exposed to music and musical instruments the better. Toy instruments are fine for toddlers but at around 3 years of age they should be using the real thing. If your child is showing an interest in piano or electronic keyboards, get her a decent one with the correct (full) size keys and tone. Proper music books are a must as well. They sell keyboarding books for beginners that are made specifically for very young musicians that are wonderful and easy to use in order to teach the basic keys and chords. She will be making beautiful music in no time at all. She may end up being a musical genius!

THere really isn't a specific time, but it's never too early either. Once a child shows interest in music and if you can afford it, it's the perfect time to start. Sure she might not stick with it, but if she does it will be wonderful. What I would do before was to inform myslef and maybe start out with something a bit less complicated at first. Lessons might also be a good idea. I don't remember when I started but I remember having a piano recital just before my seventh birthday, so I was probably taking lessons before that. The guitar was a bit more complicated because of the size. I think I had guitar lessons starting at 10. I didn't become a professional in either instrument - or the other ones I learned - but it gave me/ gives me pleasure to learn them and I still use them often specially when I'm stressed.

If a child is interested in music then I don't think they can start too early, just as long as he/she is not being pushed into it of course. My grandaughter is not two yet and she loves playing around with my guitar, she's done that since she was about a year old. Of course it's not very musical, just sounds, but she gets a kick out of it even if the rest of us are covering our ears lol! She has a toy guitar which she shows no interest in whatsoever, she prefers the big one and plays with it for hours! I would get her some kind of junior keyboard although whether you would want to start formal lessons at that age I'm not sure. I guess it depends on the individual child and how readily you think she would take to learning something like that. My cousin was four years old when he started taking piano lessons and he did very well with them.

No, you cannot start too early lol. In fact, I thought they should start when they are in their wombs. Many have claimed that if you play classical music to children when they are still fetus-bubbling. The claims are that they will make the child smarter. As for when they are out and growing up as children, I would think as early as they show interest. :)

As early as they show signs of interest in Music. If they really have the potential or a gift (in playing any musical instrument), it is best for them to develop it early. Just guide them and take it slow. Let them learn the instrument at their own pace.

My opinion is that it's never too early to initiate yoour kid in music. But it doesn't have to be the best keybord. You could choose one that is suitable for her level of music knowledge, and change it for a better one as he/she progress. Good luck!!

I'm not really sure. My neice is still a toddler and she is taking tumbling class. So I guess it all depends on what you think she is ready for. I see kid keyboards all the time at Walmart.

Hello beauty queen. I think that you could buy your three-year-old daughter a simple and cheap musical instrument for her to learn to play music. It is better to learn about music at an early age than late, as young kids learn things faster than old kids for their good imitation and talent. I am glad to know that your little daughter is starting to show interest in music and music instrument. I hope that you will help develop her talent in music with keen interest. Thanks, my dear beauty queen.

Introducing kids to music is one big step for them to appreciate music and if they have the interests with musical instruments in particular it is good to support them by educating them about the instrument even if they have little fingers. Maybe your child have a special talent in music.

I think they should start learning about music as soon as they show an interest. My daughter that is almost 4 loves music and has MANY different musical instruments to play with. We are not teaching her how to play them yet but we are encouraging her to have fun with them and when she is older we will out her in classes to learn whatever she wants to learn.

it is obvious that she's interested in music and she could be really gifted. i suggest that you buy her one, but maybe not a really expensive one. i know that there are many toy keyboards available on the market, you should look into it. &no, you can never start too early with music. :]

I have to say their should be no reason why your little girl can not start playing the keyboard. But i would start with one of the small kids one at first and if she really likes that then maybe you can look into getting her Piano lessons. I would not jump head first with lessons yet for after she starts she may not enjoy it as much as she thought that she might. So i would start off slow and then build up.
