Karthik is a very good batsman. I have seen him playing from the days when he played for India at the U-19 level. He has a pretty good technique and i think his selection in the Indian team for the 2nd test is a correct decision. As far as Munaf is concerned is a pretty good bowler too but he has struggled a lot in the past with his fitness problems so lets hope that he proves his selection worthwhile.

yes-men this is a very good question. you know even I'm surprised how our selectors can pick up a bowler who is not completely fit. If you see he is not at all bowling according to the fast bowling speeds. He is just about hundred and 20. and he is not making the ball do a lot. And if this is the case then why do you pick such a bowler when you have good players backing up in the reserve bench. Indian selectors always come up with strange surprises which never has logic inside them and this is another example of a bowler playing a crucial test match when he is not at present it. And order batsmen will you have a quality opening batsman who played such nicely in the one-day series but still you pick up a nonregular opening batsmen and he is failing every day in India is coming to bat. You're not only giving chance to players who deserve it but also you are making clear less confident by giving them responsibilities which they are not supposed to take. Cricket now is a very professional game and every player makes him ready for particular type of game which is very much important and I think selectors should select the player for what his strong points instead of what is required in the team. If you require an open in such poor player who is good in opening instead of sending a middle order batsman to open the innings. I hope they do not do the same thing with him during the Australian to otherwise you can easily guarantee the first wicket falling in the first five or six overs.

I feel it is a good move by the team as this will have a more balanced team for this test, as eden garden always seem to favor both fast bowlers and at the end the spinners and hence this is a good move by kumble and the team management and hope to have a good impact on the match and ultimately leading to indian win.

I have no qualms with Munaf getting selected. However, Karthik could well have been replaced by Yuvraj. Perhaps the fact that Karthik is an opener, and also has done well this year with the bat, tilted the scales in his favour. But he has failed again in this innings, and the only thing that's saving him now is the fact that Yuvraj is not an opener. Else, Yuvi would be in.
I guess the current scenario really cries out for a recall of Gautam Gambhir.
