I like the tenth doctor the best. He has good sense of humor.

You know, you'd think this would be easy to answer. Pick one and there ya go. But they were all good, each in their own way, so it really does make it hard to pick. Out of the old series, I'd have to go with Tom Baker but then he also was the longest star of the series too. But the last two have both been really excellent. Let's just hope that the show lasts for another generation so that we can continue to argue about who's the best Dr. or companion.

Originally from Chicago, I even had a group of friends that got together once a week on Sunday nights to play the Dr Who game. Sad but true...
Undoubtedly, my favorite was Tom Baker - the scatter brain with a menacing smile when he finally let you know that there was genius behind his thinking.

I've just been re-watching some of the first doctor who's and I have to say that the latest doctors are incomparably better-full of wit and humour, clever and sarcastic, I love them both! The first doctor was pretty good too, but the second was kind of annoying if you konw what I mean. Anyone agree?

Jon Pertwee was the first Doctor I remember from when I was a kid, so naturally he was my favourite hands down for a long time (it's like people "imprint" on the first Doctor they see). I still like him a lot, but I also like the other Doctors. William Hartnell was in a league of his own. Colin Baker I like a lot (both his Doctor and as a person, having met him a couple of times at conventions, he comes across as a really nice guy). I also like the more subtle performances of Peter Davison and Christopher Eccleston. Sylvestor McCoy was hampered by some really bad scripts, although I like his audio stories. David Tennant I haven't really taken to - a bit too arrogant and irresponsible.

I never knew anything about Doctor Who as a child. I never heard of it. I only learned of it when it premiered on the sci-fi channel in my cable line up a few years ago. I was instantly hooked on the show and totally crushing on "MY" doctor, Christopher Eccleston. I've heard many people say that their favorite is the Doctor that got them started and I have to agree. I still have yet to see the Doctors who proceeded Christopher Eccleston in the role. I would like to, but the seasons on DVD are so expensive and that seems to be the only source that I can find of the original episodes. I was deeply offended when David Tennant took over the role, not having realized that they change both the Doctor and his companion from time to time. I have to admit to being just a little less "in love" with the show for a while after that happened, but I've recovered and actually have come to like him ALMOST as much as Christopher Eccleston, in spite of the crappy role he played in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Tom Baker was the first doctor I had seen and he really had me wanting to watch the show regularly. Christopher Eccleston was there a short time, but was very memorable and is just as great on Heroes. I am glad to watch any doctor.

i know ive seen some of the older Dr. Who shows, but i cant even recall what the Dr. looked like..loong time ago lol!
i really liked Eccleson (sp?) and was very bummed out when he left the show after i think only 1 season. but i must admit that i find Tenent very engaging, funny and handsome to boot!
so im saying that Tenent(the current Dr.) is my favorite!

I have to say, that like most people, my first Doctor is my favorite Doctor, and that is Tom Baker. I have been privileged to meet several of the actors who have played the Doctor, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker & Colin Baker. I found both Tom & Colin to be very approachable, but Jon more reserved.
I do quite like David Tennant, I find him very Doctorish, more so than Eccelston.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready for more Doctor Who!

It used to be Tom Baker hands down, partly due to him being the first doctor I saw, but also he's just neat. Now though I think Sylvester McCoy is my favorite, partly because he had a darker side to him, not evil but more mysterious and just the slightest bit scary.

Tom Baker, he was just so eccentric and altho not the first doctor I remember watching (I've found from asking others this question their fav is the first) he is the one I thought was best.

Christopher Eccleston, then David Tennant, then Tom Baker, then Peter Davidson.
I love the grittiness Eccelstone brought to the Doctor, Tennant carried it off very well too, but there wwas just something about Ecclestone that I really liked, the fact that the ninth doctor was so obviously scarred by the actions that he had to take in the war really made me feel for his character.

I used to watch Dr Who a bit when I was little, but I didn't really get into it then. And now when I watch the repeats, the old episodes are just so dated that I can't really appreciate any of the old Doctors (sorry if this offends anyone, lol!) So I just have two to choose from, and after some thought, I think that I prefer David Tennant, I find him more likeable and humourous that Christopher Eccleston.

Peter Davison would have been my Childhood favorite, as he was the first one I got from the start. I'm astonishingly fond of Paul McGann, not so much for the one episode he made, but for the tons of superb audio series he's done with Big Finish.
But I think my favorite overall has to be David Tennant. Even when it's a mediocre episode, he carries the show with his perfomance.
