Start by paying yourself first. Before you pay any bills set aside a set amount each month to put into savings. You have to make savings a priority and automatic. You can start small to get into the habit of saving then increase the amount. You need to know where your money is going each month. What helped me was to write down every single cent that came in and went out. When you do this you can see everything you waste your money on and start controlling your money better. Go to the library and check out some books on personal finance. This will help you to get a better understanding of how to better manage your finances.
