Goldfish can live for 35 or more years under the right conditions. They can live in dirtier water conditions than a lot of other fish and will actually make the water dirtier by rooting around the bottom and stirring up the mud which they can take but other fish cannot. The mud will clog up the gills of other fish and will suffocate the other fish. The Japanese colored carp or Koi as they are called can live sometimes over 100 years, I have heard reports of one living over 250 years and still alive.

Goldfish can live for a number of years, mine never did, it seems the less you do look after them the longer they live, I just went to our local park today and I couldn't believe what I saw, the water looked so muddy but I kept seeingbig fish coming to the top and lucky I always take a camera with me here is a shot of one of the gold fish which was a lot smaller than the grayish ones...amazing...
