I am not a big fan of cakes I eat them but I dont care if there isnt any. I buy this cake that this lady makes it at home its a chocolate cake that is so rich you gain 10kg by eating 1 bite :)))). its her own recepi and its amaizing. Another one is also a chocolate cake made with some chocolates I am not sure which company but they cost a lot and so does the cake. I tried that at a birthday party and only got it for christmas this year (6 january 2007) I am not sure if I am going to buy it again or make my sons fav it lookes like a egg (it has peaches on top on clear jelly)

orthodox christmas is on the 6th January. My mother usually makes baklava and tulumbe we try not to make too much as we eat a lot. First we go to my mother for lunch after church, then we go to my uncle for a snack (which turns into a second lunch) than we go to my sister or my place for dinner and next day we go to the other one (if they came to my place we go to my sisters). And then we start visiting other friends and family.

My favorite cake for Christmas is carrot cake. Of course, that is my favorite cake at any time of year. Yes, I am a little strange. I had even wanted carrot cake for my wedding, but on both occassions I was overruled. Darn! My dad even found carrot cake ice cream the other day. That was great!

We tend to make more pies than cakes. I do love Cheesecake though. It is my all time favorite. Have you ever had Pumpkin Cheesecake? It is just wonderful!!

My favorite cake is a dark Christmas cake, but my husband does not want it as he does not eat it nor do my sons. If I had the money, I could order all the ingredients and bake it, but I do not, so I am out of luck. My mother used to bake a Christmas cake and we helped. My husband's family had this mousse but not much else. I think it was because back in the Ukraine and the Romanian area where the Mennonites lived that they were well off but incurred the jealousy of the natives, and when the Cossacks started to attack their farms, they decided to cut down on their good living so they would not notice them.

Although we also like dark chocolate cake with black walnut frosting, and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, our traditional Christmas cake is called "Pastel de Tres Leches" which means "3-milk cake" but the best version is really 5-milk, if you count the 2 kinds of cream the recipe also calls for.
A bad Tres Leches cake is very bad, and it is a bit hard to get it right, but a perfectly made one is heaven itself. Here is an article for those who are interested in this cake:
