Cell phone nightmare!!!!

Oh Lord, these last few months has been an ongoing nightmare with my cell phone. I bought an LG 8600 to replace my old Audiovox phone because the battery wasn't all that great on the Audiovox, had it for a few years and decided hey...lets upgrade. Well, newer isn't always better let me tell you. I had the LG 8600 for about a month and a half and then it started acting a little funny. The screen would freeze, it would turn itself on and off. I never dropped it or got it wet or anything. So finally the screen shut off and I couldn't see anything so I took it back. I filed a warranty claim. They sent the phone back saying it's water damaged? HUH???? How is that possible? I never got it wet, it was never immersed and it's not a humid climate here being that I got it in September and the humidity was down. So, I just transferred service back to old faithful...the audiovox. I used that for awhile until I could figure out what I was going to do because by this time I was just fed up. Yesterday, I woke up, went downstairs put my cell phone and house phone on the counter, made my coffee while my daughter was getting ready for school. She had a new friend meet her over here to walk to school with her. I decided to cut her some slack on the restriction because she is showing much more effort and she does need a break. Well, after they left I went to get my cell phone because I had an appointment and it was gone!!!!! I searched the entire house, just in case maybe I did pick it up while I was half asleep or something. Nope...called it, nothing. I called my daughter at school and she said she didn't have it. Then it dawned on me. I had never seen this other girl before and after they left the phone was gone. I told her to ask that girl if she had taken it. Well, I went to the alltel store to get a new phone just in case. I need my cell phone on me at all times because my paretns aren't in the best of health, my husband calls at odd times and I am on the care team for the miltary wives group. By the time I got home that afternoon after my doctors appointments, my daughter told me that she got my phone, the girl had stolen it. So today, went to the Alltel store, returned the new phone, filed another insurance claim on my broken phone, got issued a new phone and now here I am. Sick to death of cell phones! So if your shopping for a cell phone do not get an LG. They are cheap! They look very nice, but they are crap! The one I got yesterday, which was another LG, started freezing up when I had it on for a couple of hours. It's ridiculous! But I am stuck with it and don't want to pay another $200 for a phone!!!!

I went thru the same thing. I think everyone has cell phone issues at one point or another. My problem is the one-two year contract. It seems that no matter who your carrier is they get you with that canceling fee. Well I think I have an answer to everyones problem. VIRGIN MOBILE. Yes, I said it Virgin Mobile. I did some research and they have a monthly contract where you can use top up cards to pay your monthly bill. No contract. Just pay your bill. My daughter recently purchased the T-mobile sidekick. I really liked it but it cost $150. No way! Tmobile will give it to you for $50 if you joined a plan and had a contract. No Way!!!!! I contacted virgin mobile and come to find out they have the same phone(only smaller)for $50. The same plan I have now. My plan cost $70 amonth. That includes the internet, text messaging and call anywhere in US. Also I have free nights and weekends beginning at 7pm to 7 am. They also have monthly plans from $35, $45. to me its the best thing. I recommend it to anyone who is concerned with bad credit

That's pretty cool about Virgin Mobile. I have t-mobile for my daughter and I have a family plan with my brother with alltel. I like alltel because I don't have any issues with service area's or anything like that, but their phones are expensive and they will try to get you on anything to take your money. T-mobile has been really good to me though. I can't fault them for anything. I have always had good phones and good service with them as well.

Your welcome! I just can't believe how bad these phones are! I am waiting for this phone of mine to go haywire and I will have to find another claim on it. I am so scared to even pick it up!

Wow! thanks for the advice. I never really had much problem with my cellphone and to think I have dropped it on the pavement several times already. Good thing that my phone is not really an LG or else I may have been in for some trouble!

My audiovox that I had for so many years, I dropped it, it fell in the sink and I have done so many things to that phone and it still works very well. I still keep it as a back up phone. This LG I am afraid to do anything with it. Anyhow, hopefully the new LG that I just got from my insurance claim will at least last a year or so. It's irritating at best. Thanks for the response!

I am so sorry about what happened to your cell phone... this is one reason why i do not buy any other cell phone brand except for nokia... nokia is tried and tested in my country and it is the must have phone here... but now i also have a sony ericsson which i got for free... i almost opted to choosing an LG phone but the lady told me that they were no good... so i just paid for a small fee and got the sony ericsson instead... which now i think is a very good decision...

That was a very good decision! I don't want you going through the same thing I am. LG stands for Life Is Good...it should be LNG for Life Is Not Good. I have asked other people who have had LG's and they had the same problems as well. Good thing you got the Sony!

I understand your predicament when all of a sudden you lose contact with your husband or parents because of unreliable, cheap cell phones. In my case, I had this Nokia cellphone for ages and it's really reliable, it's not really expensive (my son gave it to me), but it has been my communication partner at work and with my family. So next time, you better get a Nokia phone...I agree that we don't really need fancy ones...as long as we can call and text, that's fine. Paying $200 for a phone is really outrageous. You better ask around for a really reliable, not-so-expensive phone that could stand the test of time and usage. Good luck...

My brother works for Verizon and he used to work for Alltel. I usually ask him for his opinion and he usually hits the mark. But in this case, I went my own way and bought a cute cell phone that had all the bells and whistles as a treat to myself. Big mistake! Not to mention the phones that alltel offers are all over $140. The crappiest phones are that much. It amazes me. Thanks!

i had an lg phone and it worked great even after being covered in oil, taken in the bath by 2 kids, washed in the washer, dropped in a bucket of bleach water, lost in the snow, and finally dropped in a bucket of soapy water. the only problem i had after all of that was the from display was blank but the phone still worked great. it was my younger brothers before it was mine and between the 2 of us thats everything it went thru i still have the phone at my moms and it still works

Wow...that's incredible. I just haven't had that experience. Maybe the older LG phones are better made. But of course that goes with everything I suppose. Thanks for responding!

Motorola VE440:
That's a very nice blog. But LG is not for mobile phones as in. They are for television, refrigerators, washing machines. They have lots more scope there.
