i CANT GET USED TO THE CPAP..CFLEX OR BIPAP MACHINe..it just not in my nature to tolerate these machines and i was advised by the breating therapist not to get the operation to cure this either as it will cause scar tissue and you will still have to wear a cpap macine...but I heard of a OPAP that goes throught the mouth and not the nose..which makes it more tolerable and you use a less pressure..also i am thinking about getting a lap ban as I am six foot one and weigh 300 pounds (obese) and i tried and tried but can't lose the wieght through normal diet and exercise..any advise ..positive or negative...would be welcomed..i have sinus problems and i am claustrophobic? i just have insommia too and can't sleep with this cpap device....any ideas?

You may have to just bite the bullet and force yourself to tolerate a machine wvwn if the doctor has to give you something for anxiety. As you drift off to sleep, maybe use it as a breathing meditation to calm your mind. Everything goes hand in hand. With more oxygen to the brain, you will have more energy during the day to be able to walk around and get the exercise you need to lose the weight, your circulation will be better and your metabolism may be better. And if you can breathe, your blood pressure will start to go down too and things will just snowball for you in weightloss.
My husband just had a stroke, and was now put on a machine. Now that he has oxygen flow in his body, everything is just getting better and better. It was not a stroke that caused major damage, but a "wake up call."
Also, a "diet" doesn't always work - but learning healthy eating habits does. There is way too much salt and antibiotics in our food. If all you did was stopped eating fast food, stopped eating canned food and sodium laced tv dinners and just ate fresh stuff as much as possible, you could be eating just about the same things and you would notice the pounds begin to shed.
I am not trying to sound critical, just hate to see someone have to go through a "wake up call" like my husband did if they can avoid it.
I have never heard of an OPAP but if you can't stand the air going up your nose, you may not like it going down your mouth either. Or what about getting a mask for your cpap that goes over both mouth and nose? they make them.

thanks for your input..i will try to investigate the OPAP..this information is coming in from "providers" and of course there is the standard cpap that your husband uses..i have to find one that works for me...but diet and weight loss is a big part of the treatment too..but i will not give up and keep trying to find the right treatment plan for me...thanks for your positive message...i know you are a very undderstanding wife..my wife does not think i need this..even when i show her all the facts...and of course she thinks i take "too" much medecine but I follow my doctors advice...as he is the doctor..but my weight loss would improve most of my symptoms..as i am just too heavy..thanks again...

My husband is overweight too. Unfortunately he lost weight in the wrong way to do it recently - 10 days of either just IVs somedays or hospital food. I hope things work out for you.

I understand the "too much medicine thing" me and my husband don't believe in overmedicating and are a little leery about taking things period. We just think that most things can be prevented. Anyways, we look at most of the meds as a temporary situation. In fact out of the 7, maybe only 2-3 will be longterm meds he has to take. Maybe seeing a nutritionist or a dietician along with seeing the regular doctor will put her at ease that you are not looking for just the "magic pill".
