Yes, call center industry is basically one of the most acclaimed industries by the Philippine government nowadays. Basically because of its revenues generated from its employees. It has given a lot of opportunities to thousand of Filipinos. It is noted that the industry caters to all professions and more surprisingly, even undergraduates are tough competitors of degree holders. Major requirement of almost all centers, English fluency. So long as you can speak the language, you're in!But, do you know why everyday really is hiring in a call center?
I remember one employee from the workforce management when she blatantly stressed the main reason why everyday is hiring and that too many are into call center hopping...
What do you think? Do you know why?
Have you ever thought why some parents are still not convinced of pushing their children who are about to graduate and that others would rather secure even the lowest paying job in a government agency?
Security of tenure, they would say.
And there are still more questions, worries and fears.
Little we know the difference.
Attitude.
We take this for granted.
Because of this, it is feared that one day our clients abroad will pull out most of the accounts they entrusted to offshore sites, like that of Philippines.
Reason?Attendance occurence. Coming to work late. Excuses. Alibi's. Being a Filipino stuffs.
Now tell me, do we need to put the blame to the government why unemployment still soars higher than the usual?

Yes you are true that call centers are coming up and hiring everyone with basic qualifications due to outsourcing of work and only due to cheap labour.

i am hopeful that thru this site, we would be able to awaken the minds of the readers and weigh things up from the different opinions they would get. i just wanted to ask you really as to whether outsourcing has a negative impact to our economy or the other way around?

The real reason that call centers are being outsourced are for $$$$.. Companies here save a lot of money when they outsource to the Philippine's or India etc. I doubt its the attitude I have called companies and was upset at the lack of customer service provided. Its all about the $$$$.

True, I would agree with your first statement. Cheap labor cost here in the Philippines, when factly, this kind of job abroad really pays well! But one thing I observed, a call center employee is fully aware from day one he gets hired and signed for a contract as to how much he or she will be getting for the account that he or she will be in. Further, I also assume most of the applicants before getting themselves interviewed, they have somehow made a background check about a particular call center. The point is, anyone who is in the industry is aware about this stuffs...

I do not blame the government in this regard. There are too many jobs waiting for qualified filipinos. I only blame the government for not imposing education up to highschool for filipinos - thus we see more and more kids in remote areas working at such a young age in hazardous places. They could have studied, prepared themselves for jobs like this that others won't take seriously.
I have seen it myself how youngsters jump from one call center to the other, little they know years have passed and they havent stayed about a year in one call center they have worked for... They always want more, they get bored easily... and thus they stay the same for years. you are right. its the attitude.

Well here is what I have observed in my years of being an employee here in the Philippines: Filipinos, when working here locally, are quite lazy. As you said, they are frequently absent, late, and when they do report for work they only want to chat. They are unproductive.
But guess what? When those same Filipinos go abroad to work, oh they become so hardworking! All of a sudden they become dedicated to their jobs!
This is not just a theory of mine. I have actually seen it in my former officemates who are now working abroad. It's so funny hearing that they are working so hard now, when they used to laugh at me for working so hard here!
What a silly attitude. I think it's all about respect. They respect other countries, but they don't respect their own country. Correction - it's not a silly attitude. It's a pathetic attitude!

I would definitely agree with you. It is indeed very insulting to find our `kababayans` abroad working very hard while take their job for granted locally. Analytically, it boils down to one thing-money. Maybe, or surely they put some labelling to the kind of respect they have towards their job here in the Philippines. Call center job for one, I have learned from some close workforce management employees, the reason why too many are call center hoppers at present times because of the following reasons: agents got terminated because of quality issue, attendance, and productivity and even those who are from at the management level.

As explained by you... its very obvious, that we should not blame the government. Yes, this industry now is booming and many Filipinos are qualified and able. Why? We are an English speaking people. So, we have edge compare to other Asian countries, Taiwan, China, etc.
And truly what makes it a daily hiring job among call center companies? Sad to say, the attitude of the workforce. Once they were in...they though its enough! Filipinos are witty, intelligent to the max! Attitude wise, well, well, well... Mostly failed to value the job they have. So, i mentor, i usually tell my students to value whatever job they have. Love it! Many people looking for jobs everyday, but failed to have it. So, if you are already in, do the best. Especially, as i observed, this kind of job(call center) has no security tenure.
