Do you apply sun block and sunscreen when you go to the beach? How often do you reapply? With the ozone layer depleting, it is very important that people protect their skin from the direct and harsh powers of the sun. Please share your thoughts.

I usually wear sun screen when I go to the beach if it is summer in my own country. However weather is cool the rest of the year so there is no need to do so. I went on holiday to Portugal this autumn and did wear sun screen when I was on the beach. I have been to Australia and met many people with skin cancer. They are told to put of a wide brimmed hat, wear a shirt and put of sun screen. I have also been to New Zealand and learned whilst there even on a day with dull weather it was worth wearing sun screen. That is because the sun can shine and I could get my skin burnt without even noticing. The ozone layer in that part of the world had been partly depleting. I love going to tropical places, where the sun can be very powerful. One lady in St Lucia in the Caribbean was sunbathing so such an extent that she was bright red! One man in Tunisia used cooking oil on his skin to make him tan quickly! I know that I must be careful to protect my skin from the sun. When I was 19 I worked in an office with a man that has skin cancer. He hadn't been to many hot countries. I found this rather shocking. I apply sun screen before I go out of my accommodation and re apply it every few hours, especially after swimming.

I heard that we should wear sunscreen even on raining days as the reflection (from water or surfaces) are as harmful as direct sun. So, you might like to consider wearing a bit of sunscreen even on cooler days. :-)

I always apply sunscreen when I am going somewhere that I will be in water as you can get sunburnded really bad. I don't stay out in the sun for very long periods of time so I don't need to reapply.
