i have been a life long owner of dobermans and i am tired of all the negitive comments on them. however they tend to be loyal to just one person but they are aware of gentalness and have shown me many times. one day my ex-wife got tired of hearing a squirrel bark and making our two dobies have a hairy canery she leaned out the house and shot the critter dead. the next day my red was running away from the other one and for some reason it just caught our eyes and when we went out to see what was up he ran up to us and spit out into our hands a 1" hairless baby. of coarse the old lady felt bad and we raised him up to be full grown member of our family

Not. We raised Reds when I was a kid and never found them to be mean at all. They were always very loving and loyal. Protective yes, but not mean.

I prefer Labrador retrievers, they are more generally friendly and wonderful with kids.

Most dobes are NOT mean just very loving. They are called the velcro dog because they want to be with you and touching you as much as possible. They are also good with children. Both my boys were raised with them and can tell you. They are grown now. My dobe I have now would wake my daughter-in-law up for the baby. She wanted her to take care of the baby and if that didn't work she would come get me. She would stand there and wait until she quit crying and go back to her bed until the next time. They are very close and my granddaughter learned to stand and walk by holding on to my dobe.

I am also tired of all the negative comments and stereotypes. I think part of the problem with dobermens is that they are very protective. My family was scared of large dogs (we had a little mutt while i was growing up) and now that they have met my dog, they love her. My dad especially, always gives her treats and stuff. And everyone says "she is so well behaved!" But unfortunately they will always have a "bad name"

Dobermen are NOT dangerous or vicious it is just a stereotype.
We have one and from the day we got him he has been our protector.
He sleeps outside the door of our bedroom and will not let me answer the door unless he knows its safe
