How long should you live?

I work with the elderly on a daily basis. Sometimes I get so upset because the doctors want to put these elderly people through so many test and surgeries to figure out what is going on or to supposedly fix the problem. Has the term getting old just not exist anymore. These people are well in there 90's and sometimes I just think that these people are declining due to old age and they are just trying to make more money doing test on them because how do they expect to cure these people and to what to live another few years in a nursing home where their life isn't really a life anymore. My question is does anyone think there is a point of when they need to just let go and let these people just die of old age and not suffer through more test or surgeries?

Hi clb, This is a topic that I've been thinking about lately, and I'm not certain how I feel about it. Are these people capable of deciding for themselves? No one of that age should be encouraged to have surgery unless they really want it. On the other hand we cannot choose when someone should die. It's a difficult question to answer. Blessings.
