A question about Heart Worms for Dogs

Hi All,
Does anybody know what is the drug used often for the prevention of Heart Worm in Dogs?
I heard of Prophylaxis but not sure if it is meant for heart worms only or others?
Also what are the symptoms for hear worms in dogs?
Reason is my pup is acting a bit weird lately, Don't want to eat, just sleeps and sometimes would just whine..
