Shawshank Redemption is a book written by Stephen King which made into film by Director Frank Darabont starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Shawshank is the name of the state prison where Robbins and Freeman's character imprisoned. Shawshank redemption title is based on the story's development after Tim Robbins joined the prison cell, because he was a banker and knew everything about finances and improvements, he proposed a plan for a complete rehabilitation of the state prison to give the convicts a homely life inside the prison and improved their skills, it also constructed library and recreation area.
So the title is based on the improvement and development of the prison site after Tim Robbins left that's why it was called The Shawshank Redemption.

The name comes from the title of the Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption written in 1982 it was published in Different Seasons that contains several Stephen King Novelas which have been adapted into amazing movies another is The Body adapted into the movie Stand by me. Shawshank Redemption is an amazing movie and like Green Mile shows an amazing insight into human condition by Stephen King's writing that has been beautifully adapted.

the title of the movie 'shawshank redemption' speaks for itself. tim robbin's character was imprisoned in the shawshank state prison for a crime he did not commit. and to make matters worse, the prison was managed by a warden from hell. so out of his own genius and patience, the main character managed to escape from the horrible prison life, leaving sweet revenge behind, exposing the warden of his corrupted ways. and to make revenge even sweeter, he was also able to walk away with the prison money embezzled by the warden. how did he do that? our hero was simply a smart banker and he used his banking schemes to make him a very rich man! now isn't that quite a 'redemption'?
