Goal Setting

Goal Setting has never been something I was good at. Part of that is the deep set fear of failure. I feel like it is always there, hovering near the edge somewhere, maybe to the left of the right. However, my husband and I have been setting goals. They are goals that everyone thinks are impossible, and yet I keep working harder and harder in the deep hope that they are all going to be proven wrong.
We have always wanted to have a way to work for ourselves. We both a have two common passions that we would like to see earn us money. One is writing and the other is creating beautiful handcrafted items. Well, it takes time and money to make enough crafts to sell them. So, right now we are concentrating on writing. We are hoping that we can set up a big enough online market of writing, using our own websites as well as writing for other websites, that he can quit his day job and work at home with me. We are hoping to do this around 2011. We would need a fairly secure income, one that is large enough to handle such blows as loosing an income source and such. It would have to be able to support the three of us and to pay for health insurance (we figure around $4000 a month). Last month we made (well I since he doesn't have much time to put into it) 311.54. I have a long way to go.
Well, those are our crazy dreams and goals. What about you? What are you hoping to achieve in the next five years?

...People will always say you cannot do something. They either do not want you to fail or they do not want to see you succeed. From what I have read on the topic of achieving goals, they are mostly afraid of not achieving their own goals.
...If your goals can be broken up into steps, things you need to have, be in place or obtain to move to the next step, the goal will be more achievable. Write them down! Baby steps.
...Focusing on one goal is a good idea, however, I feel, you still need to be creating your hand crafted items. It will help keep this dream alive and as you are working on writing you will find and learn ways to impliment the second goal.
...Look for things to invest in. Ever hear of reverse pensions? They are small investments, usually less than $50 usd and pay put $10,000's. I'm invested in three different ones. Be careful, most are scams. Look for detailed descriptions of how they will pay, ie. debt cards, direct wire transfers, check (not always a good method). Look for referral paying. If they pay a referral commission or not. Some are big. One I am in only pays $4, however, it is immediate. As soon as I registered my gf, I got $4 posted in my e-bullion account. Things like these will help you while you work on your dream.
...Affirm your goals. Look in the mirror and say, "I am a writer!" Our brains are equiped with a reticular activating center. If you start thinking of buying a VW Bug, you will start seeing them everywhere. That is your RAC at work. My friend who is trying to quit smoking affirms he is a non-smoker. Its a fake it till you make it affirmation. It needs to be stated in the positive. He could not say, "I do not smoke" because our brains do not recognize the word "not".
...Keep dreaming of how you want it to work and what you want it to look like. The more detail you can put into it the more real it will become.
...Edison experimented some 23,000 times before he had a working light bulb. He didn't see those other esperiments as failures. He stated he learned what would not work.
...Best wishes. Peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della

...Opps! I forgot to tell you aboutmy goals.
...The investments I am making are to have the money to buy a business lot and have a spa. I will not tell you what kind of spa. It is unique. It will be a one hour vacation you can enjoy by yourself or share with others.
...When these investments pay out, I'll have half of what I need to start. I'm looking for a few more. I may end up buying more plans in two of the three. My gf has gotten paid from her LFP1. I'm in LFP2, GPP and Imperia. There is another one, UAD, however it is a pain to get into, it has to be paid in euro. I do not like using an exchanger, because it means someone else is handling my money. Less to invest and more risk of being ripped off.
...Two years and I want to open the doors of my spa. Come and relax with me!

Wow, thanks for sharing. I am still creating my hand crafted things. Right now I have been making jewelry (one of my loves) and recycling paper which is also a lot of fun. Additionally we are working hard to replace my husbands shop where we both turned small projects (pens, light pulls, letter openers, and such). We gave the shop up when moving from Wisconsin to Texas.
Good luck with your spa, it sounds like a great idea!

My long range goal is to stay healthy. Had back issues this year that have kept me from working away from home.
I do enjoy writing but don't have the confidence to really dive into something big that is over my head. Can only spread my common sense so far! For the time being, I am working with hubpages and myLot and that's about the extent of my writing or practicing the art, if you will.
I also make crafts but it takes forever and a day to complete a project. My particular craft is not something that everyone wants or needs so it's pretty much hit and miss in my case. I joined etsy.com with the idea in mind I would sell like crazy. Didn't happen but it's been interesting.
Much luck with your goals and ideas. Hopefully success is right in front of you.

It is important to set our goals- in life. Because it will motivate us to carry on. But in setting our goals, we should also be ready to failures - and not only successes. But let us not stop when we failed, but we continue to pursue our goals. because winners never quit and quitters never win.

It is magnificent that many people still hope for the best in the future even though it appears so uncertain. I hope you get all your dreams. Well, we have one thing in common... I also love to write and had based my future goals in this particular area that I believe I have a knock for. Though I doubt I would be signing books anytime soon, my goal at the moment is to publish this novel that I had finished writing. It's the first part of the trilogy which makes it more difficult to sell and also as the Philippines has a low number of "habitual readers" my dream would need much more hardwork to bear some fruits. Also, I want to finish my degree and be a highschool teacher. I know, being a teacher won't make me a millionaire but my passion is to impart knowledge and help people (especially teens). It's satisfying to have a dream of fulfulling other people's dreams...
