I travelled from Hong Kong through Guamgzhou, Shanghai, Xi'an and Beijing in the summer of 2006. I travelled for 3 weeks seeing all the main tourist sights and all for less than £1000. Yes that includes flights and hotels. My tip is to book everything in the UK. I booked my flights and hotels in the UK and my sleeper train tickets i the UK. This saved me a packet and it meant that I had more spending money for when I was away!
