I am very creeped out by people who say they are satanists. I'm not very educated about the religeon, but I think it has to do with pleasing the self, and indulging in life. It's also associated with black magic and attracting evil spirits/ demonic spirits, which I am very very afraid of. I would never want to be a satanist. What are your thoughts on satanism? DO you know anyone who is a satanist?

Satanism is a very broad term. Religious, non-theistic satanism A.K.A LaVeyan Satanism consists of focus on the self and indulgence in one's desires. It, however, has it's own set of rules and is not the "child killing, animal sacrificing" religion some say it is. Other forms of Satanism, usually involving "Devil Worship" and obsession with evil spirits are, what I like to call, Christian Satanism, as they address the opposite side of the Christian religion. I know a few Satanists, and almost became one myself. However, I long ago came to a conclusion that I already live the way mosts Satanists do and, by default, hold most of their beliefs. Satanism doesn't scare me, so much as amuse me. To me, it just seems like an attempt to mock the Judeo-Christian religion by a man who wasn't very fond of those particular religions.

I personally do not know anyone who is or claims to be a satanist. I really do not wish to know them or bump into them. I already have enough tests and tribulations in life. I do not need these so called satanists to come into my life and test my faith. God is merciful and I am sure God has a way to deal with them.

you people are so strange you have no reason to fear a satanist. Christians have killed many more people then us true satanist have. It is against our religion to kill for any reason other then protection or food also we don't worship satan in satanism satan is symbolic of human desires and as long as they don't hurt others and we don't believe in any external god or higher being instead we are our own god

I actually did know a teen a few yrs back who was a Satanist..really sweet kid too (we knew each other via email) and I know several ppl, including myself who've read up on, researched and learned about the various "types" of satanism etc so no I am not afraid of it at all LOL In fact, much like what Latrivia said, I already hold many of the Satanic beliefs. I live very much with a Satanic philosophy in life TO AN EXTENT...Satanism is actually a very interesting religion to study and there is absolutely nothing to fear in it at all.. I also want to say that there really is NO SUCH THING as "black magic"...Magick is just magick...there is no colour to it, it just is..

Yup. A lot of Wicca depends on making decisions about things yourself, or learning directly from your own experience. Some of what a particular Wiccan practices might have come from the person who taught them, or if they studied on their own, what books they read. Try grabbing a few Wiccan books and seeing how much they actually agree on. It's all dependent on what the author actually practices and who they learned from. :P The nice thing about this is that it leaves room for people to walk the path that is best for them without being held back by artificial boundaries. The bad thing about it is that you can't really say "Wicca means..." or "Wiccans believe..." about much of anything and have it be true for every Wiccan. It makes Wicca a very hard thing to explain. *laughs* Sorry, I shouldn't butt in about Wiccan things since I'm not Wiccan myself, but I've spent most of my life involved in religions activities with Wiccans because frankly... there just aren't that many Celtic Reconstructionists around!

Then why do Wiccans refer to their "magick" as white? Where did the term black magic come from then? Just wondering

I have had several Satanist friends, and all of them have actually been very ethical and nice people. I haven't ever had any of them treat me badly, nor have I ever seen them traffic in any kind of dealings with "evil" spirits. If anything, they tend to tread "neutral" spiritual ground. The main ethical viewpoint that I've noticed and understood Satanists talking about is actually treating others how they deserve. Which means not only being kind to those who are kind to you, but also harming those who harm or threaten to harm you. I've never met a Satanist who believed in the Christian devil as an actual being, and the only people who worshiped that figure that I've known have called themselves "devil worshipers" not "Satanists".

How are satan as in satanism and the devil different? I mean isnt that a contradiction? Didnt the word satan come from the bible? As well as the word devil?

Hi megumiart, No, satanists do not scare me. I do fear for them though. Everyone need Jesus Christ as He is the only way to Eternal Life. The Bible does warn against such acts that you mentioned and they are of the devil. With Christ, we have nothing to fear. Just pray for them! God bless:)

wow I am really starting to dislike you Springlady Also Satanism is not scary (and unlike the Christians Bible the Satanic Bible says not to harm children lol) I can't understand why you could fear us we won't harm you unless you harm us (after all our saying is "do unto others as they do unto you")

I am wondering exactly where in the christian Bible does it advocate harming children? I recall the verse that says if you prevent a little one from coming to him you would be better to have a millstone around your neck and thrown in the depths. My paraphrase but that is the gist of it.

No they wouldn't scare me because I know the He that is in me is Greater. I have spoken to some that are into wicca and though some call it white magic, if it isn't from G♥d, then there is only one other source. Since I have only talked to this girl online, I can't say for sure how I would react to her personally, but I find that she is really a sweet girl who is searching. (the last three words are her words, not mine) And, who is to say that I haven't already been around one, just that they didn't let me know? People are all the same. So I have nothing to fear if someone is worshiping another god.

Nope..Satanists don't scare me..I am not too informed about what this cult believes in but I do think you might be misinformed as to what they do believe. I think that evil is not from people but from Satan himself..People can function as his instruments and have nothing to do with Satanism.

why do you say that? What in your opinion does Satanism mean? I've studied it and there really is nothing to fear whether you are talking modern day Satanism or old world Luciferianism..I see no reason why anyone would feel the need to "run like hell" at all...

from what I heard the actual satanist is the one who worship the devil thus they are the followers of satan, their rituals include sacrificing people or animals. other than that they are just selfish self centered people, that will do unto others what others do to them. well if this is the case then probably you can call me satanist since I believe I should be kind to those who are kind to me, and cruel to those cruel to me. It's strange I do believe God exists but I've met some people claimed to be His followers in reality are not. I definitely am not the first category which is devil worshipper. I can't kill anything or anyone no matter how much I hate them. maybe I can intentionally hurt someone that hurt me, but taking their lives is something else

How many stories have you heard about people being murdered bc of sacrificing? That is a perversion of their religon. I do not approve of their beliefs, but I also know a little about how they worship. I don't agree with it, but they are NOT evil. They are brainwashed to thinking they worship for the good of mankind. Think about it. Satan is the king of temptation and sin. Sin is normally pleasing to the eye. Their religon seems peacful, but deep down it is dark, and their ways are not the ways of the bible.

I have to add that satanism is basically worshiping santan. Not relly the devil himself. But I have to say that I would not be one who you do stuff like that because I am a firm beiliver in GOD. I do think though that all religions make sense to the people it appeals to.

No they don't scare me. As long as I remain good I know I'm going to heaven. They're the ones who are going to burn in hell, so I think they're the ones who should be afraid.

Beth - I do not think she is afraid of the God they worship, rather the organization itself. All organized religions are - on some level - evil and do not have anyones best interest in mind.

Devil worshiping is basically worshiping the malevolent being of a particular religion. Commonly, it is the worshiping of the Christian devil. This is not to be confused with religious Satanism. In Satanism, "Satan" is synonymous with 'self'. When people who practice Satanism say something like 'Hail Satan', they are talking about worshiping the self, which is pretty much most of the basis for religious satanism. Satanists do not believe in the Christian Devil. Because they do not believe in him, they do not worship him, either.

I personally don't know anyone who is a satanist and probably wouldn't want to- they just look creepy. I don't believe in a Christian god therefore Satan doesn't exist in my eyes either. I think human life in general deals with indulging in life and pleasing oneself we all do things day to day when life is revolving that would fit this description- I don't think that is necessarily a Satanism thing. Black magic and worship of evil spirits is probably what it has more to do with. What's really creepy is that Satanism is recognized as an organized church and religion...created by Anton Levey in the 60's and he wrote the Satanic Bible- which goes over what they believe and what they call black mass. I studied them in school during an Anthropology course. I also think there might be 2 kinds of Satanists- ones that actually go to the Satanic church and ones who just want to be satanists and make it up as thego along- sacrificing animals and playing with Ouija boards-usually high school rebellious types. That's my 2 cents!

I guess if you believe that there is a satan, then the prospect of satanism can be quite scary. I don't believe in Satan, so I don't give it much thought. I'd likely think that anyone who was practicing satanism was silly, sort of like believing in David Copperfield or Criss Angel or something. (at least they're entertaining). But then, I feel that way about organized religion as a whole, whatever the flavor.

not all stanist are associated with black magic and attracting evil spirts only the ones in it to be like that. most satanist are just non christians that dont really belive in anything. Im not a satanist but im not a christian and i dont say niether is right or wrong its the person everyone has there own calling in this life and if thats it then so what. the only satanist i would be scared of is the ones that have camps in the woods and train everyone there to be a killer and if they want out they get killed that would be the only type of satanist i would be scared of.

Satanist is a person who dedicated his life to satan. In common, satanists use the black magic to empowered their body from other enemies. They do rituals to attract evil spirit to posses their body, and make them stronger than normal people. But, ofcourse God will put satanists into hell together with their adorer (satan).

No. They don't scare me. They don't even believe in Satan. They use Satan as a symbol of their practice but they don't worship the devil. I would never want to be a satanist and not because I am afraid of it, because I don't think is right to destroyed somebody just because they hurt. I kinda like the concept of giving love to those who only deserve it. I don't know anybody who is a Satanist. I have read the Satanic bible and been to their website a couple of times.
