In my web searching today I found a site full of quotes and sayings that got me thinking (unusual for me but it did!). Please read a couple of them and tell us which one hits closest to home for you. Which one is something you would say or the way you feel?
Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. ~Norman Vincent Peale
Christmas is a time when you get homesick - even when you're home. ~Carol Nelson
He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. ~Roy L. Smith
Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind. ~Mary Ellen Chase
The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other. ~Burton Hillis
Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall. ~Larry Wilde, The Merry Book of Christmas
I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month. ~Harlan Miller
Oh, for the good old days when people would stop Christmas shopping when they ran out of money. ~Author Unknown

I think the 'Christmas is a time when you get homesick even when you're home' is definitely my thought exactly. I get homesick for the way life was when my kids were small and I had them all at home with me.
What about you?

"The best of all gifts around any Chrismas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other." I love this quote. My family can't afford gifts this year. We are all making something for each other instead of buying anything. I can't wait to see what I get! I love gifts that come from the heart instead of the wallet.

I think it's awesome that your family is going to be making their gifts for each other. It think it brings Christmas more into perspective.

Well I like them all. But to choose just one, it would have to be:

I have family in Alabama that I never get to see and Christmas time makes me think of them and wish that I could see them.

It's funny how Christmas can be happy and sad at the same time...especially when we are missing family.

'Christmas is a time when you get homesick even when you're home' is definitely me. Although I'm home, a nice home at that, with a wonderful man, and all the Christmas decorations.....it's the only time of year I feel a little homesick for Texas and my family. Christmas was always the one time of the year that all of us gathered at my mom and dad's , no matter where we were, at one time I lived 2 hours away and my sister lived 6 hours away, we all we go to mom and dad's for Christmas. Then 2 1/2 years ago I met the most wonderful man I could have ever met, and moved 1600 miles from Texas so we could be together. This Christmas my daughter and her husband will be going to Texas from Virginia, my sister and her husband will travel the 6 hour drive, and my other daughter (only lives 10 miles) will all be at my mom and dad's. But we aren't able to go this year, because of work (his not mine, I'm off from Dec 22nd - March, I'm a seasonal wildland firefighter). But, like the song says, 'I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams'.

That song always brings tears to my eyes! It was one of my Dad's favorites because he was from Oklahoma and lived here in Boston since the day he married my mom and he was always homesick for "back home".

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. I find that the world does become softer and more gentle at Christmas. Of course you have your Scrooges....but I have my own remedy for them. Extra doses of christmas cheer!

The one that goes "The best of all gifts...family around the tree. Even though my mom and brother are missing. (Florida) That one fits, I think. Cannot do Christmas in Florida. Sub-tropic weather gives "my state of mind" a work out. lol I also like "Never worry about the size of your tree" How true!

Actually....the best of all gifts fits for me too because I told my daughter that all I want from her for Christmas is her with me on Christmas day...

"Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of the children, they are all 30 feet tall!" - I love this quote, its so true, and once in a while we grownups should be reminded of this. :) Merry Christmas!

Larry Wilde says it for me. My kids are still at home and I love seeing their eyes light up at this time of year. It doesn't matter how small a decoration or tree is, they remember everything as being enormous and sparkly. I love this time of year!

Hello Ctrymuziklvr,
Nice quotes. Thanks for sharing.
I rather like:
"He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree." ~ Roy L. Smith
For me, this sums of the whole point of Christmas. It isn't a day, or an event. It's a way of life, or a conscious choice to allow love, faith, generosity, and a belief in miracles - big and small, to permeate our very being. I've come to believe that carrying the Christmas spirit in one's heart tends to be the difference between optimism and pessimism. And, therefore has a year-round effect.

These were all great quotes I think this year the homesick one will fit me. This will be the first Christmas in my entire life that I will not be with my Mom. We just cant afford the cost to go home this year. It will also be the first Christmas without my older children. They moved to Colorado this Fall. So it will just be the three of us. I'm sure it will be fun, just not the same though.
