How do all of you dog lovers deal with shedding? Any good tips or tricks you use? I love my dogs, but MAN he sheds a TON! I think every time I sweep I could get enough hair to make another dog! LOL

This doesn't work for all dogs, but we used to have a long haired dog that liked to be vaccuumed! we even got a special attatchment that was like a brush where we could brush him and the vacuum would suck up the hair. Other than that, I know they make special gloves and brushes, and i think there are some special vitamins that you can add to their food. You might check with your local pet store or your vet.

I have 5 dogs and the thing I've found to work best is I actually use on my horses as well as my dogs. It's called a shedding blade. Its usually only a couple of dollars and it works wonders!

What exactly does a shedding blade do? I will have to look it up! Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip! I think I will be making a special trip to the pet store in the near future to get one. Definitely worth a try!

It removes excess hair and helps reduce the undercoat. Please don't think of it as a blade because you are NOT shaving your dog-don't worry! It has teeth on it that help lift the hair but its a lot easier to get the hair out then a normal dog brush. Trust me I have 5 dogs (German Shepherd, Cocker Spaniel, Shetland Sheepdog, Pitbull and a Rhodesian Ridgeback) and I know dog hair a little too well!

Be sure to feed your dog a high-quality dog food. It will keep their skin healthy and will reduce the amount of hair they shed. Some breeds just naturally shed more than others, though, so diet will help but won't eliminate the problem. Daily grooming will help a lot, as the other posters pointed out.

Thank you for the advice about the food.. I didn't even think about switching to a different brand to see if that would help. Thanks!

She's right @lbinkley it also reduces the amount of poop which to me is a wonderful side affect of a healthy quality diet.

I brush my dog every day usually and at least every other day. No help, although i think the vac attachment would work. Thanks for the reply!
