I am an amateur writer and a busy mom. I love writing and I see how it really can be a lonely life. You have to have so much time alone to produce anything. I have let so many of the homemaker things take the back burner. The time goes so fast when I am writing that it doesn't seem like I get any writing done.
The internet makes time speed up even faster. I get lost in cyberspace so easy. I have been working on some articles and can't seem to get them finished and submitted.
The more I work on them the worse they get and I am just chicken, maybe it is just bad writing.
Any suggestions? any one else out there feel the same?

I want to be a writter too and I always get chicken. I guess that's a sign that maybe it's not for me. I will go to the library and get books on how to submit my peices and everything and get very discouraged. But I sent them to my mom who is my biggest fan and she loves them and actually has printed them off and binded them together just for her personal use. And when I find out about a contest I tell her and let her know that it's ok if she wants to submit it on my behalf. But she never tells me if she does or not just so if it does get rejected I don't die a little. Because you take so much time and heart that the story is apart of you ya know that it being rejected is like me being rejected. So maybe you could send it to your friend who belives in you so much and have them send it for you. As far as time goes. We all just need to invent a longer day or something. I have nothing for ya on that one. Sorry. If you figure that secret out can you send it to me too.

I know how you feel. I've been writing for over 10 years now and now I have a 2 year old child. It gets a little hectic, especially with trying to keep up with the housework.
I think what makes things different for me is that I'm a totally independent self-published author. I refuse to submit my work to someone else and have them judge my writing based on what they think other people like and don't like. It's a little harder this way, but I love it. There's a lot of freedom in it and you don't worry as much about rejection... well I don't worry at all really.
Something that motivated me in getting things done, though, was I started my own website and newsletter. When you've got people expecting something new ever so often it kinda motivates you to get it done. Here's my site if you want to have a look. I've got 4 newsletters that I'm writing now just to keep the writing flowing. Each is on the different subject and I write a new article each week for 3 of them (the other is a quarterly newsletter).

Maybe if you get started writing your own newsletters it will help to motivate you too. I'd be happy to help you get started with it all if you'd like.

I'm in the same situation. I am home alone most days, until our daughter gets off work and her kids get home from school, then all h*ll breaks loose. I have to make myself a schedule of what I want to get done. I usually write first thing in the morning, then leave it till the next day for editing and polishing the article up. I seem to catch more errors that way. In the afternoon I will try to get some housework done and do some more research for the articles I want to write the next morning. I try not to spend too much time on Mylot because it is addictive and I don't get anything else done! When I am home alone, I call my friend Jannette or go out to her house for a short break and some company once or twice a week. You just need to prioritize, decide which things need done the most, and do them first! Good luck with your writing career. Send those articles out, and don't worry about rejections because it happens to the best of writers. If you think your writing skills need improvement, get involved in some writing classes to gain confidence in your work.

All things start in the bottom and as an amateur writer you still have room for improvement and theres a lot instore for you. Things dont happen in just keystrokes or just a blink of an eye, its a step by step process and we go all through this process. Mylot is a good venue to practice your writing skills, you can try posting your work here and then ask for honest comments from mylotters and ask for our honest opinion.

Mylot is a very good site but earnings are very slow whereas writers could do like young Maddie who wasn't making a dime with her own blog and now make about 400$ per month with Hubpages see

I am the same way. What I have found works for me is to write on actual paper with an actual pen, instead of typing at the computer. I am much more productive that way. Every so often I make a list of topics I want to write about. Then I sit in the living room while my son plays, and I can write while I watch him play. I have to go back later and edit, of course, but the bulk of my writing is done this way.
When I am feeling too critical, I leave it for a day or two, then come back and reread with a fresh eye. I am an ameteur, so I love writing on Helium. I can submit my articles and get feedback from other writers. Then I can rewrite the article taking the feedback into consideration. I think my skills have improved since doing this.

Dear Nimwia,
Why don't you start a blog? then you can post small incidences which ever you feel like. You'll get enough courage then to do what you want to do. Start small, day by day increase that. Start answering discussions, not only here, go to www.indusladies.com .There also you can just answer the threads , paricipate in the discussions but they will not pay you for discussing and spending time there. It is mostly a ladies forum. Try it out. You might like it.

I am a writer and have been published in poetry and have written for newspapers and been paid. Currently I am writing and submitting articles $15.00 per article to an internet site in the community I live near. Like any job you need to pace yourself and have a schedule.
You need to take a break. Get up and do other things for a half hour or an hour. Leave off where you know you can pick up leaving a note for yourself what is next. Your body and mind both need the break.
Do some of those household chores and errands. Your writing is not going to get up and run away as long as you make notes to remember what you want to do next or say next. Set and alarm clock and heed it.
Get some feedback from someone you can trust too on your articles be prepared for friendly critisim. Spell checking and editing and open to suggestions. Then go back and make the changes and edit. From there just DO IT submit and move on.

Putting the finishing touches on a written piece of literature can be challenging. I have dealt with this before. My advice: whatever you compose at the end must compliment the beginning. In otherwords, keep your audience's attention throughout the whole piece.
