Power Outage in the Middle of a Discussion?

Something just happened to me that really made me frustrated. I was in the middle of commenting on a response to one of my discussions(which took a lot of thought), when my power suddenly went out. This caused me to have to close my browser and sign in again-entirely losing my comments. Then I had to wrack my brain to try and remember exactly what I had said before I was interrupted. Has this ever happened to you?

Well it has but as I have Grease Monkey with Firefox it saves what I have written so it was still there

I had Greasemonkey Gabs but I couldn't figure out how to use it. I got it specifically to do that because my connection would drop out at the worst possible time....after I'd typed a long post. I could find no instructions and I just couldn't figure it out...how do you do it?

I'm sorry you had lost data you typed as a result of power failure. I've not suffered data loss at myLot because of power outage, although I've lost responses that I've typed in because I forgot to sign in before typing in the comment box. One suggestion when you are typing long or extended responses is to keep doing a copy of the text that you have typed as you go along and save it somewhere more permanently like in a notepad. It's sometimes difficult to remember what you have tried to say after thinking and typing continuously for 20 or 30 minutes, and suddenly everything disappears. I know the frustrated feeling, because I have been hit before by lost data in recent months.

That used to happen to me often, lexus. I would go directly from my email to mylot, type out my response, then discover that it will not post because I have failed to sign in. I absolutely hate that! I have not done it in a long time now.

Oh yeah this happens to me pretty often. I have AOL and when do any kind of upgrades, it upsets my AOL program. A couple of days ago I was writing along and everything locked and that was the end of my discussion. Although it's easy enough to recall what I was writing about, it's difficult at times to remember all the details. I feel your frustration on a regular basis, unfortunately.

That must be bothersome, carolbee. I used to have AOL and experienced similar issues.

Yes it has. it made me so mad. I have learned to go ahead and turn off my computer and unplug it when it is thundering and lighting outside. There are times though when my lights have went out for no reason also.

As a matter of fact, Shaun, it was your response I was commenting on at the time. We were not having a storm or anything, though. It could have been an accident.

It has never happened to me with a discussion, but I write reviews for various sites and have lost a review that way before, which can be really frustrating because I spend considerable time and thought in writing my reviews.

It is very frustrating, Aurone, so it might be a great idea to get one of those little voice-activated recorders.

i guess an experience like this would make anyone frustrated. this has also happened to me a couple times before. you really feel like it's pure bad luck when it happens. just gives you so much anger. i hope that you would remember it soon. like they say; 'everything happens for a reason'

Oh heck, no big deal. Just feed some chestnuts to the squirrels and they will soon be tread-milling you back to power. Brain wracking is better than brain wrecking or brain wacking. I have had this problem before, but am thankful my computer didn't burn up or fry something inside.

I think I was happier that my stereo didn't go off, sigma, because it always takes me about a week to remember how to reset it, LOL.

We've been having storms so it's happened quite a lot lately. Luckily, my laptop switches to battery power...YAY! and the screen provides me with a light source as well.

this has not happened to me, the power outage thing. what always happens is my pda (which i mainly use for myLotting) would hang after i have typed a very long comment or discussion and i wouldn't be able to save what i have typed! its really frustrating but i can't do anything but to turn it off and restart the thing. ^.^;; sometimes i would forget what i have written but most of the times i can still remember it so i will get back on the discussion immediately and write what i have written before i lose it. ^__^;;

It sounds like you must be having some bad weather there my friend and I'm sorry about that! I've never had that happen to me and hope it never does. Luckily we have a bright, sunny day here in Boston today.

We do have snow, ctry, but the weather is really not bad enough outside to have caused this. I believe it might have been traffic related.

Maybe not a power outage, but computer problems would cause the whole page to close. very frustrating..

We are having a bit of nasty weather in the area, carmelanirel, but I don't think it could have caused this.

Its a game here. The power company just shuts down areas whenever it needs more power to the gated communities especially now that billions of lights are on at night for the holidays. Soooo, get a backup battery to run you computer during outages. I have actually stayed online during hurricanes and given updates on some of our elderly who have various illnesses, to the local hospitals.
