How do we punish and control paedophiles

Paedophilia is a mindset that cannot be altered, there is no rehabilitation for this sort of person. The question of whether they are born or made is pointless but rather what do we do with them? I don't think wasting state resources on counselling is the right idea, although as a research avenue for future prevention this is ok. I think they should be institutionalised, castrated and isolated. Think about it, they will have their fantasties but have no way to release them and the only contact they have is with adult guards.....not their first choice of companion!!!

Too many people here are already to burn someone at the stake for something they can't control. The person is referring to the mindset of a pedophile. That mindset is that the person is sexually attracted to undeveloped children. As any homosexual will tell you, people don't choose to be attracted to certain types, they are born that way. Now if someone molests or abuses a child, that is a crime and I think they should be punished for that. But just having the mindset of a pedophile is not a crime and might not be such a big problem if people would acknowledge and treat it as a mental disorder.

They shouldn't be locked up unless they commit a crime. Nor do I think they need to be castrated or anything so ridiculous. Everyone has urges that they can choose whether or not to ignore. People in relationships still find others to be attractive, but everyone is quite capable of ignoring those feelings and never cheating on their significant other because they know it's wrong.
I know that homosexuality is between two consenting adults which is why I have no problem with it. However, many people still consider it a sin and there have been many attempts throughout history to exterminate them for something that I don't believe is a choice. Now there is no evidence in either case to prove what may or may not be genetic, but it is a possibility. I think most criminal pedophiles were sexually abused as children, but I don't know the statistics to back that up. If the behavior and mindset stems from abuse, then it can definitely be treated.

I strongly disagree with the statement that they are born that way because I think this is a learned behavior, they have learned in their life that adult partners are not going to let them have control in their relationship, so they go after the helpless. The next thing I dont agree with is that they cannot be rehabbed because in my ministry I have seen some become rehabbed and now lead happy productive lives with adult partners.
