Is Life Of Brian Brilliant Comedy, or sacrelidge personified?

The Life of Brian was banned in many places round the world, and still is in some. But why? Is it the swearing? Maybe the content? Or maybe the fact that it was actually quite funny?
Do you think that it was a good idea to make comedy about this subject? If it is, why not any others?

One of the funniest movies of all time. I still laugh so hard I could puke! I think certain sects of the world have no sense of humor! I think more comedies should be made and people should lighten up. The fact that Blockbuster won't carry the movie in their stores is why I won't go to Blockbuster.

It's controversial because it's set around the time Jesus was alive, but many Christians misunderstood what they were trying to say and thought they were mocking Jesus. They are just pointing out what a strange time it was Jesus was born into and how easy it was to get caught up in different religious and political sects. It is a very funny film and not actually sacreligious at all if you actually watch it and understand what was being said.

I've just watched it on tv - imo the people who attacked/banned it &/or accused the film and the Python team of being blasphemous, either a) hadn't actually seen it, b) missed the point that it's actually a parody of Religious epic films and + religious fundamentalism & blind worship rather than of Jesus, or c) are offended/threatened by it's portrayal of the followers being a bit too close to home to the way they are.
