Can I know where my friend's relationship and mine stand?

Is it wrong for me to want to know where my friend's relationship and mine stand?..? *Some people will say they don't need to see or speak with their good friends/ BFFs everyday or months to know that everything is OK with them, because they know where they stand in their friend's heart, but****others will differ and feel liek they have to question their friendship because they have not spoken to their friend in months or weeks and feel like not seeing or hearing from them, means that it's over or slowly drifting apart. But what do you think?..*should I ask my friend where we stand?..**She has told me that I am one of her BFFs, but we live in different states, and we do keep in touch via phone; aim; letters and visits, but it'll be harder once she's in the military.*I honestly just want to know that no matter where we go and what we do, the distance and time can't keep us from feeling the way we do now (I know it's rare for friends to stay this alive, but it happens).
