Christmas in UK Schools

I watched in mild disbelief at the news this morning as many primary schools in the UK are now NOT doing nativity plays with their children but are choosing to do "Seasonal celebrations" instead.
Why? Apparently, it it to provide inclusion of all other faiths. I am a Christian and as such feel that Christmas is the time that we all are reminded of the birth of Jesus. Many non-Christians would also agree that that is what the Christmas festival is for, even if they don't believe it.
My children are both at schools where they still do a form of nativity play; a baby Jesus is always mentioned in some form or other, even if the shepherds and wise men are occasionally "modified"!! I really respect the schools for doing this. I also respect the schools for doing teaching and celebrating Eid, Diwali, and Chinese new year. It is right to know and understand other religions and how our beliefs define how we are and the way we live.
Why then, is the Christian faith, the predominant faith (I think) of the UK being pushed aside in this way in schools? I am perplexed by decisions like these; not angry or frustrated, just perplexed.
Any one got thoughts on this issue?
