Call on them and talk to them. Be as casual as possible. Ask them if they have problems with you or what do they think should be done. Explain the office policies you are trying to follow and your guide in your work. If still they dont follow as per your talk then send them a memo to explain.But if the problem is personal you really have to make some effort. It is asking and giving, or a give and take relationship. Give what you can give to their demand so your demand can also be given.

In gaining your employees respect, you need to respect them. As their leader you need to show them their job, and when they do a good job, let them know. If they make a mistake don't criticize, that is the worst thing that you could do. Tell them how they could improve on their project/task. Know how to do your job so they can follow in your footsteps. If you can't lead, they can't follow. Set a good example for your employees as in professional behavior, work ethics, etc. At my job I do have a boss over me and she does none of this and in return she loses respect of the people below us. She wants to be the "cool" one and in the work place, that just don't get it.
