Every now and then I wonder why we do this. You push the elevator button and the button lights up. The next person pushes the same button. OR You push the button get impatient and push it a million times like it will make the elevator move faster. What is your philosophy on this?

When I step into an elevator and there are other people on it, too, I don't even notice the light is on. I just push the button I want automatically. Sometimes after I have pushed it I realize what I have done, and I hope other people haven't noticed too. I'm sure some do because there has been a few times that I have looked at someone after I have done it and they soemtimes smile. Like they are saying, ha ha I saw that. But it is such a small thing in life so I don't stress over it. I just chuckle too.

I guess we do it thinking it's not working like any other machine we have: Press the ON button if doesn't do anything press again and again and ... Nothing to do with speed, probably in the early days - one could still find some - the buttons and switches weren't that reliable so a second more firm press would do it.
