Does your pet have a song?

Yeah, yeah, I know. Some people will say this discussion is full of meaningless fluff, and it is. But, the question is legitimate: Does your pet have its own song or am I the only nut in the bag that sings to her pets? Animal, my late & beloved chow, had a song that the kids and I would sing to him. It was Panama by Van Halen, only "panama" was changed to "Animal." I came home from school last night to discover my grandpup here (oldest son's dog). His name is Ozzy (shitzu, cute-cute-cute). Long story short, we are dog sitting for a couple days since the little booger bit his dad. His song is I Am the Walrus by the Beatles. "Eggman" is changed to "Oz-man," and the little booger just eats it up. So, am I a total whackjob, or does your pet have its own song too?

Chiquita Chihuahua - Lounging on The Pillow
Well, of course you are a total whackjob, but what does that have to do with singing to your 4-leggeds?You make me feel really guilty now. I sing to my Chiquita Chihuahua and My Man Charlie the Cat all of the time; but I have never had a specific song for them. Now I feel as though they've been deprived. CRAP! My day is ruined. It could carry through the weekend. Perhaps all of December is messed up now because I am such a wretch. Alright! 2007 is officially the worst year of my life for mistreating my babes. If someone chooses to report me to the SPCA I don't blame you.~Donna

Donna! I knew you would be the first to call me out on the whackjob thing, lol. Call it a feeling or intuition, but I knew it as I typed it. Thanks for not making me out to be a lying whackjob on top of it. =D Your babies are adorable, btw. I wish I slept that soundly...break me off with what you are giving them!! hahahaha How about Sammy Hagar's "Mosh Tequila" for Chiquita? Swap "tequila" for "Chiquita" and she will know that song is just for her. ...I'll be back if I think of one for Charlie the Cat. I'm sorry your day has been ruined at the very moment that you brightened mine. Hugs & luv, Shannon

Charlie In Candlelight - Sleeping on the couch
And then there's Charles..... Both of these photos show that I give my babes heavy duty sleeping meds to keep me from having to sing to them!

I sing to my cat all the time, when she was just a kitten I'd sing to her the lullaby song but changed the words to "mimi you, mimi you, mimmi you the little kitty" ("mimi" is kinda slangish spanish for nighty night) and she'd fall asleep. Oh and she'll sing that Lumidee song with me, that "uh-oh, uh-oh" song. For anything else she'll come up to me and stare at me all annoyed, she doesn't like my singing. Oddly enough if I work the word elephant into a song she'll bite me. Go figure.

That's funny (and cute!). Kitty has issues with elephants! That's a new one on me for sure. Thank you for sharing that and bringing a hilarious mental image to mind.

Thanks! She's a nutty little one. I don't know what it is about elephants but she hates the word. Lately though she loves the word "toasty", I'll whisper it to her and she rolls around on the floor, lol.

Hi Shannon, I don't sing to my dog but I have a black lab that actually enjoys watching TV and listening to the radio. Whenever Queen's Bohienien rhapsady comes on, He starts Howling real loud. He also wants to attack the TV whenever another animal comes on the screen. He's funny to watch at times. Terry

Hi Terry! Long time no see. Ozzy barks at other dogs on TV too, and yes, that is funny to watch. What I thought was weird tho, the first night my son left him here, the hubs & youngest went out to get kerosene and cokes. Well, Ozzy sat up on the bed with me and watched TV with me until they pulled back up. I swear he looked right over at the monitor and watched them get out of the car, then waited till I said "pappaw's home" before he went to greet them at the door. It was like he knew the difference between the TV & the surveillance monitor. Good to see you again, btw. Ciao4now, Shannon

My pet dislikes unusual sounds, but she's a cat so that a no brainer. You discussion however has an interesting backbone, i have no doubt that animals in general can learn to appreciate music. I have seen all sorts of amazing stuff done by animals in reality or in tv. From parrots that learn semicomplex tasks from each other just looking at the first one who manages to achieve the goal to dogs literally riding skateboards to cats doing all sorts of creative games. Animals are amazing, i think we whould stop watching them from higher ground. But no..my cat has no favorite tune :)

I know that you already picked a best response but I wanted to tell my story about my dog Pepper. I was listening to a song by Lady Gaga and I recorded it on my cell phone part of the song, I knew my dog Pepper liked the song but when I replayed the song part back it was so funny. You could hear her yelping to the music on the recording I was with my brother at the time and we just started laughing. Anyway thats my story about my pet and her song. Take care and happy mylotting to you as well.

Ah, that sounds sooo cute! Pepper came really close to being my puppy's name, but since she follows around like a shadow, we call her Shadow instead. We haven't had her long, so she does not have a song yet. Thanks so much for stopping by

Actually, our main cat..the King Kitty, Ozzy (haha small world)...HATES it when I sing to him. He gets grouchy and will take the opportunity to swipe at me. Everyone else doesn't really care what I sing lol.

Wow! Very small world...great taste in names/tunes tho, lol. That's funny that he gets grouchy like that. Just goes to show that animals, like us people, have individuality.

Well, I sing "You are my sunshine" to my cat all the time. Except I change the lyrics. "You are my Reggie cat, my only Reggie cat, you make me happy cause you are grey you'll never know dear how much i love you please don't take my reggie cat away!" Uh, I sing this song to him a lot. He probably thinks I'm crazy.

I'm sure they think we masters are insane, yet they love us. =) I'm sure Reggie eats it up tho, Ozzy sure does, and Animal always did. I think they know even if it is a little corny, it's special just for them, ya know? I changed the lyrics on I am the Walrus for Ozzy again last night. I am the Oz-man I am the Oz-man Pappaw is the Walrus Ku-ku-ka-choo hahahaha...yeah, that is a little insane ;)

Well, ours sort of have a plethora of nick names and what might be called sig-lines, but I don't think they have songs per se as yet.

Yeah, I can identify with the nicknames too. It was amazing to what my chow, Animal, used to answer to, lol.

Actually, yes! I know where you're coming from lol...my cat, Simon, loves "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor...we used to play it and make him dance around when he was a kitten just cuz we thought it was funny, but now, if it comes on, he struts around the house, jumping all over the furniture, almost on beat with the song! Not sure if he remembers, or if he just likes it, but it's really cute. My grandma's old dog used to sing along to the theme song of one of her soap operas, and a lady I work with has a little Cocker Spaniel who sings along to the theme from Law and Order. He gets REALLY into it! LOL I sing silly songs to my pets all the time though...then there's the Potty Song....hmm. Maybe I shouldn't be trusted with children. LOL

I'll bet that is adorable watching your cat dance to Eye of the Tiger! If ya ever get that on YouTube, I'd love to see it...(insert lightbulb smiley here) just got an idea. Maybe you could tape that and send it to one of the funny video shows. That would be cool. I don't have the Oz-man singing along yet, but if his stay is extended, I might be able to teach him, lol.

My African Grey has two favorite songs: "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad", and "Rock Me Gently". She is learning the words to her "Choo Choo" song (if she even hears a train on TV we have to sing it) and she dances to "Rock me Gently" which I have to sing. She doesn't like the CD version.

Awww! That tops the cute with extra sweet! You must have a good singing voice to top the CD version. Thanks for stopping by to share that, and it is nice to meet you, btw. Ciao4now, Shannon
