What is the difference between proofreading and copy editing?

well proofreading is somthing u usually do as soon as you are done with your writing,to see what changes need to be made and correct spelling and all that...once u have done that then u rewrite,and mabey since thats a copy of what you first wrote, editing the copy just incase is copy editing:D. i dont know just guessing:)

Copy editing and proofreading are not the same, but are different stages of writing. Copy editing comes into the picture after you finish your first draft. It focuses on developing and connecting ideas. On the other hand, proofreading checks spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors before the manuscript is submitted for publication.
