I recently saw the film Taxi Driver for the first time. Of course, I had heard lots about it including the memorable line "You talkin to me? You talkin to me?" Ironically, that famous line was not in the script, Robert Deniro thought that up while they were filming the scene. After watching the film, I felt sypathetic with Travis. While he isn't really a nice guy, he drinks, watches dirty movies, and pops pills, the writer does a good job making the character of Travis redeemable. His failed attempt to begin a relationship with Betsy is tragic. He's obviously lonely, but is unable to find aaway to interact positively with the world.
