We dogsit our daughter's bassethound 2-3 times a week. The dog is friendly and sweet but doesn't seem to be satisfied with anything we do. She's always hungry, doesn't sleep much and wants to go outside extremely often. Any myLotters have any experience with bassethounds and can you give me some advice about the breed? Thanks in advance.

I have always had dogs, and I have had two bassets, however, I never had those particular issues with them. It could be because she doesn't feel at home in your house. Maybe you could give her her own blanket or even better would be a towel from your daughter's house, that way she would have her sent on it. Give her some toys of her own that stay at your house. She could be wanting to go outside, because she is looking for your daughter.

Thanks so much for your helpful advise. We have the dog's food dish over here since it's the kind that automatically drops food every 6-8 hrs. and is premeasured. Our daughter brings the dish with her each time she drops off the dog. Our daughter suggested this morning that she will bring the dog's travel cage and see if that satisfies the dog. It might be a help also.

You are welcome, hope some of it helps. I'll be dogsitting my daughter's dog over the holidays, but, he used to stay with me about half the time when we both lived in Texas, we lived in the same apt complex for a while and he would come spend some days with me, and then go back to her place. And he has my dog to play with, she'll bring his toys and his bedding and stuff too.

It sounds like she has separation anxiety and is missing her mommy. My mother dogsits for us too-she reports similar behavior, but we have a Bichon and a Lab.
