Celebrating Cultural Diversity During the Holidays

It all began with a phone call to the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership, and organization responsible for organizing extracurricular events for Chattanooga. It seemed that the organization had given the okay for a Christmas nativity scene to be placed on city property in a park for public viewing. The complaint came from supporters of non-Christian religions who do not worship as Christians with respect to Jesus. Is a city's success not contributed to the idea of cultural diversity and those things that each individual culture brings to the city? Conflicts of interests should never interfere with positive growth of a city. Some may say that they are afraid of slow elimination of cultural identity in our city, but cultural identity is never eliminated in most societies. If you search hard enough, you will find pieces of these unique cultures in combination and living harmoniously. Examples are food and dress. However since a city should promote cultural diversity, the nativity scene was taken down. Three days later the nativity scene was set back up with the Downtown Partnership giving permission to citizens of non-Christian faith allowing them to display items of their religion and culture during their celebrated holidays. Does this not already happen? What are your thoughts? How do you celebrate cultural diversity in your hometown?
