I am rebooting my computer at least twice every month and sometimes every week and its all because of virus and malware. I use avast home edition in my computer but i don't think its that strong to check those virus and malware. I really find it frustrating when the computer becomes slow due to virus and malware and to be frank i don't know what a malware is?
So, everyone here what is the anti-virus in your computer?. Do you also use malware protection software in your computer?. Please suggest me some good softwares to protect my pc from virus and malwares.
Thank you all.

I've never used anti-virus on my computer - I use online scanners every now and then to check out my coumputer.
Do you download a lot from p2P networks? Otherwise I don't understand where you get all that junk from - I never get virus or malware. You have to consider what you download - don't just accept everything.

Uh, have you ever heard of "drive-by" malware? See here: http://ezinearticles.com/?Virus-and-Spyware-Hackers-Target-Legitimate-Websites&id=552479
I never get infected either, nor do I use antivirus/antispyware. But that's not because I haven't run into this stuff, it's because my system is hardened: http://invincible-windows.blogspot.com/

I suggest that you use Kaspersky or Symantec antivirus. These two antivirus are very effective in terms of detecting and deleting malwares.
As for free AV products, you can download Avira AntiVir Personal Classic Edition at www.free-av.com
I also suggest that you use Firefox or Opera as your main browser. These two browsers are safe to use when compared to IE. :-)

Kaspersky is really very good and blocks many trojans and worms. Also it monitors all inbound and outbound traffic cleverly.

I have avg 7.5 version and spy bot with a combination of ccleaner on my computer and am pretty satisfied with the protection that is being provided to my computer by this combination.

For a simple, set-it-and-forget-it installation, my recommendation is McAfee SecurityCenter special edition from AOL. It's a 3-in-1, and also includes proactive features like IDS and script blocking. Sign up for an e-mail account with AOL, and it's yours free: http://safety.aol.com/isc/index.adp?
And if you'd like to really harden your system, here's how I do it: http://invincible-windows.blogspot.com/
