CHAPSTICK....... is it addictive?

So, I've heard many times in my life that Chapstick has an addictive property. People claim that when a person uses Chapstick, and specifically the name brand, that they eventually acquire a tolerance to it. Ultimately, after excessive chapstick use, a person begins to necessitate it, whereas should they have not used it to begin with, they may not need it at all.
Although the use of chapstick does not dry out your lips, it's been said that your lips would become dryer than before after using chapstick, in which case you'd need to continue the cycle of applying it almost religiously.
Now, I initially thought that this could be a little ridiculous, but I've heard it over the past couple of years so many times that I really began to consider it.
I realized that the majority of people that I know that don't use chapstick religiously don't have chapped lips nearly as often as the chapstick "addicts".
Also, I have noticed that when I apply something other than Chapstick intended for the use of dry lips (i.e. burts bees), that I don't need to repeat the application nearly as often as when I use Chapstick.
But, is this just coincidence, or does chapstick actually create the problem it's advertised to alleviate (whether it be manufacturer intended, or not)?

you should try the lip balm from Bodyshop. It simply "taste" better. Hehehe. Somemore, Bodyshop's products are all natural, so I strongly don't think there are any addictive in it. =D

I use Chapstick once in awhile but most of the time I like to use a little bit of vaseline because it seems to work better. I have heard that they are addictive.

Thanks for responding! I agree, Vaseline is a good alternative. I think the only reason I don't use it all the time, as opposed to Chapstick, is because it's not as convenient. They should make Vaseline in a little tube!

I have to use lip balm several times a day. If I don't use it my lips seem to dry out. I started using lip balm with spf 15 in it when I burned my lips when at the beach. That was nearly 10 years ago. When I tried to stop, I went nuts! My lips didn't feel the same and I had to return to using it again.

I more often then not, use vaseline on my lips. I don't feel the need to pay out more money and buy chapstick when vaseline is just as good. There are so many products out there that specialize in something when there already is something just as good and most people have at home anyways.
I have never heard before that chapstick is addictive. This is new to me. I find it hard to believe such a thing, but if you say so, I guess it is true, since you have heard it several times over the years. This is the first time for me. Thanks for the information.

It's addictive ..? I never knew that. I used it once and never used it again, because its rather expensive and there are lots of cheaper alternatives in the market.
