Have you ever eaten potato pancakes? Do you have a recipe for them?

I made some potato pancakes at my mothers today and you would have thought my granddaughter never ate in her life! She loved them and surprised me because she doesn't love many foods. They are so easy to make and taste so good that when my mother mentioned them I had to go into the kitchen and make some just for us to pick on and everyone enjoyed them!
Have you ever had potato pancackes? Do you call them by another name? Do you have a favorite recipe for them? I know people have all different ways of making them and I like to try new ways.

Grated potatoes, drained, some onions, an egg. Fry them up is the way my Mom used to make them.
I do the same thing, I guess she used measurements, but I never have. 4 or 5 potatoes, an egg and an onion. I use good sized potatoes.

I never use measurements either for anything and haven't had any problems yet. We also put some garlic in ours.

I never tried it with garlic, but garlic is one of those foods that I get carried away with.

My dad used to make them all the time when I was younger. They are absolutely yummy, and you can put any kind of condiment you want on them. Syrup if you want them sweet, or ketchup or whatever to make it more like a potato type meal. Unfortunately, I wasn't the cooking type, so I never paid attention to how he made them. So I don't have an answer to that part of your question. LOL

I'm not crazy about the sweet ones but I do love putting ketchup on them sometimes.

Oh yes, my mother used to make them. I am lazy, so I don't make them. I buy them at Traders Joe, ready to eat. All I have to do is warm it up.

yeah
they are good
I even made them a few times
grate up some potatoes, squeeze out some of the water
then add an egg and some flour so it sticks together
then fry em golden brown in olive oil
mmmmmmmm

Sounds yummy to me! The only thing we don't use is the flour and they still stick together.

Yes, I have had lots of potato pancakes in my life, ctry, and I love them. I don't go to much trouble when I make them. I just use leftover mashed potatoes and a little flour. I sometimes like cheese in them. I have seen several different recipes for making them, but I will always take the easy way out whenever possible.

hmmm, you're the second one to mention flour. I've never used it but might try it the next time. I have put cheese in them and my kids always loved them that way.

My only contribution to this discussion is owning up that this is the first time I have heard of potato pancake! Yes, it is not an Indian food and is not very commonly heard over here either. But I read all your responses and it sounded so yummy that I am determined to try it out the moment I step home today. Hope I can pull it through with whatever I could gather from all of you.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and keep in mind I'm in a rush so I've not read any of the other replies if this has been brought up)....isnt a "potato pancake" pretty much the same thing as a hash brown patty?

My dad used to make these for us when we were kids. I loved them and used to eat the with ketchup.
I don't really have a recipe but I know there was flour, potatoes, onion and egg. I think he used mashed potatoes for ours sometimes. It has been a very long time since I have had a potato pancake.

Yes! I have eaten potato pancakes. I like them with sour cream. I have also eaten them topped with applesauce. Did you know they are on the menu at IHOP? (International House of Pancakes). People love them. You can buy the box mixes at the grocery store here. I am a bit lazy, that's what I have done. Still yummy that way too. Don't have a recipe. My grandmother used to make them from scratch. When she passed, so did the recipe. Bon appatite'

We, in our family, love potato pancakes as well. I make them quite often just to munch on or I make them to be eaten with our meal. I like them when we have my home made bean soup and my home made chicken soup. The way I make mine is of course potatoes shredded and soaked in salt. Not too much though. I then add a couple eggs and raw shredded onions and I use potato flour instead of regular wheat flower. I only use a few tablespoons so that it is mostly potatoes, not flour. I fry them very slowly in a frying pan with olive oil. When we eat them we sometimes eat them plain, but other times we put sour cream on them.
