why do people adore their pets like dogs, cats etc. and then turn around and support the meat industry by buying and ingesting meat products. if you ran at your dog with a mean angry face waving a knife at your dog, he would either run or attack you. dogs, and animals such as cows have feelings too. in the slaughter houses in the united states, the cows are hit as they are walking down to be slaughtered, to make them move faster. they can hear the screams of the cows in front of them getting their throats slashed to go to the meat market. they are scared and they are terrorized like this before their death so that people can buy their meat in the stores. why don't people care about the suffering of the animals that they buy in the stores to eat...it is quite a mystery!!

Well... I don't know about the terror in the slaughter house. I believe that we have laws to do this in the most human way possible. But there is nothing nice about dying. Farmers actually do care about their sheep and cattle. But they are realistic about it. If they did get attach to them and gave each one a name... they could not kill them. Now get your head around this one... You talk about cats and dogs... What do cats and dogs eat? Meat... If a cat or a dog has to catch his own food... think of the terror the rabbit experience when a dog or a cat catch it. Animals are part of the food chain. It is a cruel world... but that's the way it is. A dog will kill a cat if it can catch it. My cat will kill anything that is smaller than him. He kills small rabbits and eat the whole lot... including the fur.

I agree with you. Have you ever seen a cat playing with a mouse? It torments it before it kills it. Humans are not the only animal capable of cruelty or love. Dogs and cats that go wild will hunt for food as would we if we could not buy it in shops. I do not think it is a cruel world as such. It is simply the way we are. People care about animals and that is why they want humane killing. When humans were hunters and gatherers they risked their lives to hunt for food. Now it is all domesticated and most of us can buy meat without having anything to do with the killing or the butchering. Perhaps that is part of the problem. We have become too removed from our food sources and many people have no idea of our relationship to the food we eat.

Hi stanz! Oh, I don't think I don't know the answer to that. LOL! I guess, it is man's basic instinct for survival that is why we eat and support the meat industry. However, to be honest with you I only eat fish and vegetables. I do feel bad about the animals that are inhumanely being slaughtered or killed. I have read somewhere before that animals that are killed cruelly release toxins in their body and thereby in the process, humans ingest the same kind of toxins that somehow affect our health. I am still trying to remember where I read that so I can share it with you..but for now, you just have to take my word for it. LOL! haha.. Take care and have a nice day my friend. :)

I eat meat and I have pampered pets. I do agree that there are humane and inhumane ways of slaughtering an animal. You are a vegetarian and that isn't wrong for you. I am not and that isn't wrong for me. My husband and I are also hunters. Have you thought of how terrible over population of cattle, chicken, pigs, deer, wild boar and turkey would be if there weren't people who eat meat? The disease in animals would be incredibly sad. There would inevitably be a lack of food for the animals which would lead to disease and starvation for those animals as well as a rise in diseases that can be transmitted from animals to people. Our own food supplies would be adversely affected. Especially for vegetarians. Not all slaughter houses practice inhumane killing. Those that do need reform. It's that simple. I wouldn't eat my dogs, but in other parts of the world, someone would. We're all different and we have to accept the differences in one another.

I agree with you. Humans have always been hunters. I used to be against hunting because I saw the danger of extinction if too many were taken and the herds were not allowed to grow. These days my attitude has changed. I have read much and learned that many of my ideas were wrong. I think life was much simpler when we lived off the land rather than the way we live now. We used every part of an animal for food, clothing, utensils etc. I think all killing should be humane. If a person was no longer in modern society and had to live off the land to survive he or she would learn that meat was the best source of food they could find supplemented by gathering grains and plants etc. Before we tamed animals we used to eat horses for food. Then someone discovered how useful horses and wolves could be as companions and we made bred them into what they are today. The same is true of all the animals we eat. We domesticated them enabling us to settled down rather than live as hunters and gatherers. I do not understand how anyone can say that we only eat meat because the meat industry tells us to, we have always killed animals for food and so have the dogs we bred from wolves.

I couldn't agree with you more. I am vegetarian for over 15 years. Most of my friends are not. They look at me and ask why I don't eat meat. I always say that I don't eat my friends. It was the main reason for me to be vegetarian. Cows and pigs are very smart, but chickens are smarter that many people think. Chicken wings are to be free not fried...

I don't know that they do this in the slaughter house, honest! If this is what they do, then I will really change to a vegetarian. I don't eat meat a lot, because this is not how I was raised. I do eat a lot of fish and shrimp or crab. but the thing is very hard for me not to eat meat in winter here especially if I have to work outside. I wish that someday I can be purely vegetarian

Just because someone isn't a vegetarian doesn't mean they don't have feelings for animals. Besides, maybe vegetables have feelings too. And fruits. Anyway. I don't eat pork. I rarely eat red meat. Let me first tell you that. I eat chicken and turkey and that's it really. So the way I look at it is this. Cats and Dogs and things are bred/created to be pets. Not to be food. Cows and Pigs and Chickens and things are bred/created to be food. Deer and Rabbits and things are bred/created to be wild animals. They are there to be food if needed. That's just the way that I look at it. It's not specific. It's not like cows can ONLY be food. It's not like Dogs are only pets. sometimes they're working dogs. It's not like Rabbits are only wild and free. It's called... The Circle of Life.

I feel the same way people who smoke feel when they're killing everyone around them with second hand smoke. I feel the same way people who buy foreign items from Japan who excessively overwork their employees feel. I feel the same way that people who go to stores in which their employees are treated like crap feel. In other words. I don't feel that by someone buying food to eat, to survive, to enjoy... is promoting animal cruelty. Saying "I ONLY LOVE TO BUY PORK FROM PLACES WHO TORTURE THEIR BIGS BEFORE KILLING THEM" is promoting... buying it... not so much.

Logically you can't compare people loving their pets. One has absolutely nothing at all to do with the other. Cows are raised as meat, not as pets. We don't eat dogs or cats, which are both carnivores. Human beings are, by nature, omnivores. We consume both meat and plant. It's what we have always done and were designed to do. If you're looking for support on this argument, simply study human teeth. Our teeth are designed to handle both types of foods. I have two dogs that I love more than you could ever understand and I proudly eat beef, pork and chicken and will continue to do so. Before the "meat industry" as you call it, we still ate meat. We simply went out and hunted for it or raised it on our own land and took care of the butchering ourselves. The only difference was that nothing went to waste in those days like it does now. Even the heads of animals were boiled down and scraped to be certain that every usable part was gotten. And let's be logical. How do you know that cows have intelligence? You can't apply human emotions to animals who live by instinct.

I'm surprised to see you think people who buy meat are supporting crulety to animals in the slaughterhouses. Anyone who buys leather shoes, purses, coats, sofa's etc. anyone who buys Bone China, heart medication, any piece of Laminated furniture(glue),soap, cleaning products, dog and cat food and the list goes on are Supporting the Cattle Industry all the things listed come from the Cow in one way or another not just food for the table.I don't think anyone would be For any kind of animal cruelty and neither does the Goverment, hence the strick regulations governing Slaughterhouses.

the people choose animals like dogs and cats because are easy to feed and maintain, do not requiere many care, which also arent as big as a sheep or a cow, even so there are some pleople who have pets like cows and horses within his houses, besides the dogs are very social animals, not cows or sheep that if the shots pet will be more difficult to teach things that you could you have taught to your dog. the reason why we eat only such animals is because that are providing higher calories and things necessary for the proper functioning body, unlike an animal as a dog cant be eaten because it provides few nutrients. PD: i dont allow to the people hit to animals as a result they grap affection and it is more difficult to kill them, anyhow in china are killed for food
