I agree with yu Jordan. Christmas seems to just be about big business and big money. It seems that everyone gets super stressed out, goes totally overboard buying material junk/gifts, and makes the holiday a dreaded time of year. Why do people believe they are obligated to buy so much stuff and overinduldge so extremely? Yuck-- the whole holiday is materialistic brain washing.
I for one, do not buy into the nonesense that the commercial industry trys so hard to tell everyone they must do. A very few select gifts for loved ones (many of which I make/create), time spent with family and friends, no malls or shopping frenzies either. I do not send cards, decorate trees or my home except for a few small things, nor do I play the "I have to buy that" game. Love and sharing are what I partake in. :-)
Have a serene and meaningful holiday!

Hi Jorden,
Christmas is definately about the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Many may try and make it otherwise, but without Christ, there would be no CHRISTmas!
We need to remember that we are celebrating God's greatest Gift to us, His Son, Jesus Christ, Who came to free us from sin!
Happy Birthday Lord Jesus!
God bless:)

Well, from the perspective of an atheist who celebrates Christmas - it's not just about the birth of Jesus anymore. It's about goodwill towards your fellow man, and commercialism. For the sake of tradition, I include the birth of Jesus into my celebration, but that's not what I focus on. Charity, generosity, and all the kind things that people should do throughout the year become more of a focus during the Christmas season - to me, anyway.
Personally I don't see what the big deal is. Christmas now has many different meanings to people. However, people are still able to celebrate in whatever fashion they like, be it religious or secular.

In an ideal world, people would be smart enough to give gifts without having to put themselves into debt. In the pursuit to make someone else, happy, however, some people just make financially unwise decisions.
People do sometimes lose themselves in the commercialism surrounding Christmas. In their quest to give gifts in order to make people happy, they tend to forget that it should be the thought that counts, not the price of the gifts.
It's not just gift giving, either, that represents good will. It's the acts of kindness people do for one another, whether it be stopping to dig all the loose change out of your pocket to give to the bell ringer on the corner, or volunteering at a soup kitchen so you can serve food to the homeless.

I you believe in Jesus....then that is what it's all about. It's the love in your heart because of your faith that makes Christmas special. It's about giving because you want to and sharing and spreading joy! Just as he would have wanted us to do.

I guess over the last decade or so Christmas has just become another occasion to give and take gifts and go on a family vacation rather than anything to do with religion. We in India are witnessing a similar syndrome with our traditional function Deepavali. These days Deepavali is so less about God and so much more about purchasing jewelery, clothes and gifts!!
The businesses are actually blowing away the Christmas spirit and the Deepavali spirit!!
Cheers!

I think Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ, right? Is there any evidence in Christianity to celebrate the birth of Jesus and was Jesus born on December 25? no offense, just curious.
If it is the birth of Jesus, praise the God in giving Jesus for mankind, ok have bit fun too, but not only fun.

For me it's different I celebrate christmas to celebrate the birth of the important of all. I recall this every year to remeber that I was forgiven to all my sins because of him in this way of celebrating I return in a small way what he do to me and to all of us. this is the reason why I always waiting for this day. Many of us celebrate it for the children to be happy and many of us celebrate it for other reason its not important how we celebrate it the most important is we remember that we have a savior to save our soul. Time will come and our children will understand why we do this they will soon know but we have to guide and teach then every thing that we know about jesus.

Well Christmas was started as a pagan holiday actually so i see the reason of why we are diverting it back away. It was changed into the Birth of Jesus aspect of it but it never truly was. I love the fact of how we made it into that and i despise the fact that were going back but i see why. The worlds just trying its hardest to get rid of it, it doesnt want to place subjects on people. its.. "equality" is screwing us up.
