If It's Yellow, Let It Mellow???

I don't believe I'm doing this, but for the sake of science and research, I must sacrifice my integrity. Some members have complained about silly discussions but I've noticed they're often the ones that get tons and tons of responses while some posts that obviously were deeply thought out often get few if any responses. So, here's one you may consider silly or you may think it's just plain gross - do you live by that saying "If it's yellow, let it mellow, ig it's brown, flush it down"? I'm sorry, really I am! Annie

I have heard this saying before, and lets face it things are getting scary and when you think that they are actually thinking of making our drinking water from our waste letting it mellow could be the way to go, can you imagine the amount of water we are wasting by fluching toilets.

Um, well we have low flow toilets so I don't feel too bad flushing everything down. Personally, I think it is pretty gross to let anything sit in the toilet. My son often forgets to flush and after an hour or so the smell is pretty bad, plus it draws our cats into his bathroom and then the urinate on the floor....

I say, if they are that concerned with water conservation, they should go back to the old "50 yard dash". After all, it was good enough for our grandparents when they were younger. ;~D (can you believe we are really only a generation or two removed from 'out houses'?? ;~D )

Oh, yeah, I can believe it. I remember visiting my paternal grandparents when I was little when they still had an outhouse; they got their indoor bathroom when I was about 6 or 7 if I remember right. I remember my mom taking me out to go to the bathroom once and making the "innocent" comment that she was always afraid a snake would bite her in the butt and that fear stuck with me from then on, even in porta-potties! If I lived a little more on my own then yes I probably would. But we have way too many people living here to get away with anything like that! I prefer to use those drop in toilet bowl cleaners that work with every flush so it was never obvious if I was letting anything mellow...but they don't do them here, everything has to be picked up and neat but it seems like there are absolutely no cleaners besides laundry and dish soap and pledge wipes. I don't understand the point of cleaning house with plain water all the time.

I don't live by that saying, but my hubby sure does. I hate it that he doesn't flush the toilet after he goes pee. It is so disgusting. I used to clean houses for a living and I know about germs that are gathered when you don't flush. The bowl can get so bad. I know some people think this is saving money, but I think it is money well spent. My hubby will try to save a penny whereever he can, that is why he doesn't flush. We have had a great many arguments over this. I have given up trying to talk him into flushing and I just flush behind him. This gets him mad but I don't care. He's not the one cleaning it.

I have never heard the sayings before, but I guess they are cute. I do not much care anymore about the discussions that people start. If I want to reply to it, I do, if I don't, I skip it.

I myself try to avoid to respond to controversial discussions though well thought, because sometimes i avoid the drama that comes with it. Now this one of your is not silly at all. For I dont follow it because, where we live we pay water a constant fee of around $4 every month and also there are streams and rivers near. So we dont apply that rule here, but if I were living somewhere with water shortages then i'll apply the same. Thanks for sharing.

Nope...it should all be flushed down. However, we here have a problem that makes things difficult. Our 16 month old son sleeps in our walk in closet (my disabled mother is staying with us). If we flush the toilet (the bathroom is next to the closet) then he wakes up. I don't know why, he doesn't wake up to the shower, or other things, but when he hears the toilet... So, when he is sleeping we don't flush the toilet. This means sometimes I forget even when he is awake...

Well, I agree that some conversations are sily and get tons of responses, yet others are in depth and don't get no where near as mny of resonses. I'm new to the mylot but I did read about a dozen descussions before I started to do this my self. I have to say though some are well thought, they seem to go on and on pretty much by saying the same thing but different wording. But it's almost like saying that something is junk. Someone's junk is another persons treasure. Or that a stupid question is the one not asked. What I guess I'm saying is that something that seems silly to you might seem like the most interesting thing to another person.
