As much as I love shopping ; I hate it when you need help and see sales people talking. You go up to them and ask for help and they continue talking and doesn't even acknowledge you being there. One time I shouted at to and they looked at me as if I were crazy. But I did get some help.I had been waiting for about 10 minutes and figured enough was enough. What Is your department store pet peeve ?

That is really annoying. Perhaps you should have made a complaint. I really hate how rude people are, especially at this time of year when the stores are really crowded. I'm disabled so I have to walk with a stick or use a wheelchair and even when I stand back to let people through, I don't get so much as a glance or a thank you. No one holds doors open for other people anymore either and the amount of people that knock into others or barge past without an "excuse me". Argh! Manners don't cost anything.

Thank you for your response. It does seem to people are the rudest in that way. I'm the type of person that will hold the door for some one else. They don't say thank you ; as if I had to do it. It doesn't cost a thing to be kind to some one that you don't know.

oh ya that bugs me a lot too. its like you, the customer don't even matter and that you are not important at all. another thing that bugs me is their attitude sometimes...like they are doing you a big favour by serving you!

Yeah , that's what they think but they forget we are the reason they get a paycheck. So they should chill on all the attitudes and realize they need us. We can always go to another store to shop.

If I need help and see salespeople just standing around talking, I will politely butt in. We have hardware store in town where they really drive me nuts, though. If I need help, I can't seem to find anybody, and if I know just what I am looking for, they are all over the place! I think they do it on purpose. :)

I know what you're talking about. When you don't need help they are there. When you need help ; can't find nobody.Thank you for your response.

i hate how that happens and you are treated like a intruder, when actually you are a paying customer.i absolutely detest bad service at a shop and when someone is nice and helpful its a shock to your system nowadays.i usually make a coment to the store manager when someone ahs gone out of their way to be nice, but i also complain when they are rude.cheers sue

i know, it is rare to find a good sales person now days, and when I do I try to get everything I need from that person because I know when they walk away; it's over getting service. I have asked to speak to the manager also ; when I have to. Thank you for your response.

Well I used to work in a department store and I would always help out customers and I am shy so I never had any desire to go off and chat with my co-workers. However I would always get upset when I had a line of customers and I would buzz my co-workers and no one would come. Heck i had to go pee one time and buzzed the manager on duty 7 times and she never came needless to say I went back and found her talking with her husband who had come in through the back door. Needless to say I quit and have no desire to go back. Oh that and they completely turned on me and now cope an attitude anytime they see me. The point is that the customer comes first. If they need help you are supposed to help them. Really employees are not allowed to stand around and talk they have to be working or look busy. What you do is go to the manager or find out who is boss over the manager and complain to them.

Thank you Mollyrose. You are right the customer does come first and I feel for you ; the way you were treated. I don't blame you for quitting that job. I would have also. Too many times from management down to cashers ,they stand around and are talking and forget about the whole purpose of them being there- to serve the consumer.

My pet peeve for department stores is not having the product on the shelve. For example if you are looking for something and it is not on the shelve you see the price tag on. It is either 5 feet above you or in the next isle. I guess they have over stock so they put the product on the top shelves or a couple shelves down. So then you have to wait for someone to come and get it down for you or waist your time looking in other isle for it.

Yes that is another peeve and a good one. Thank you for your response.I know I've been there myself a lot of times like just yesterday at the store.I was looking for an item and it was way down at the bottom shelf where in my opinion, it should have been placed up higher to be easier seen.

Oh yeah, that is my pet peeve too. Being in a depatment store, or any store really and the salespeople are talking like they are the only ones there and that matter. Also when you see someone on the phone and they haven't acknowledged you standing right in front of them. I try talking to them and they make ME feel like the intruder. I have walked out of many stores for this reason!
