Advertising Your Website

What have you found to be the best way to advertise your website? How much have you spent on advertising and/or leads? Please share any and all experiences with this issue. I've done traffic exchanges and the free sites but what else is going to truly bring in people to my site? Where is the best place to get leads? Free or purchased?

I have just put my page everywhere, messageboards, blogs, I made myself a Youtube page, I get a few from there, messageboards that are related to your page, my page is to do with music so I put it on many music boards, put it everywhere you never know where you will find interest...

Thank you so much for your input. Well, based on what you have said, I guess that I am doing something right. I've put my favorite sites on my blog and those same sites on my trafficswarm account. Those sites of placement are good, because I can track to see how much traffic they are getting. And if I don't like the results I can remove it and put something else in its place. Thanks again for your valid input.
