Should kids be allowed to surf internet on their own?

Internet is becoming more and more popular. There is a lot of good stuff as well bad ones. Some say the kids should be allowed to surf internet to know about the good stuff which contributes to their growth. However, others argue that the bad stuff will have an negative effect on them. In addition, the kids might get addicted to internet. That's why one of my collegue does not allow his son to surf internet on his own. If his son has something to search for on the internet, he will do this for his son, or let his son do the search under his watch.

No, kids shouldn't be allowed on the internet by themselves. Kids don't know how to behave online and it's getting more and more kids seriously hurt or killed. Kids think that they're invincible and the anonymity that the internet presents reinforces this false belief. It's irresponsible for parents and other trusted adults to not monitor children while they're online and to knowingly allow them to be online without supervision.

I would prefer freedom but imposing inormal social control in such a way that they would know what they are doing and not go on the wrong path i think if u let people go they come back to you instead of chaining them like dogs.

not at all. i must say it. children have less idea about what is bad and what is good. they have the general tendency to explore the things that are told bad and forbidden. there should be parental guidence in surfing internet by children.

i want that kids should allow to browse on there own but before let them allow to browse the net put some firewall or block some websites which they are not suppose to view as per to there age.i agree that there are both good and bad but it completely depend on individual whether he is going to take a bad or good thing in his life.

I must agree with you up to a certain extent, I think children should learn how to use a computer. But I have a safety lock on my computer so that they cannot come in contact with anything 18+ so to speak. My kids are not that grown that they go on chatsites etc. The only thing you can do is just warn your children, you cannot keep them safe from everything that is out there.

My opinion about this is good to use internet by the kids.because internet is a wide area networking group of computers.it gives us informations about anything and anywhere in the world.internet gives us both good and bad things.nowadays our kids want to use internet for knowledge and variuos assignments.allow him to use internet with your presense.atleast one of the family members should know it very wel.try to make him understand all things about internet.we should not allow our kids to misuse the internet.

Actually it is easier to get attracted towards negative things, so to avoid such places at net which are very common I feel one of the parents or someone elderly should always keep and eye of if the child is small then the elder person should search for the child. Prevention is always better than cure so better if someone guides a child on the net.

Sadly no unsafe all computers with children in the house.Should be a family room den etc ... Never in
the children bedroom . Online can become a very
unsafe world indeed . But if use wisely can also
be a excellent resource tool for children as well.

there are many ways to make the internet safe for children... but it first starts with the parents... the parents are the ones that have to step up and put these blocks on and alot of the time its the parents fault that these kids get into the bad sites... i know the internet can be a safe place but come on parents put these blocks on it for the kids...
