It was so sad yesterday. One of my good friend's had a choclate lab that had to be put down yesterday. She needed help lifting him into the car so I went ot help her. I help her carry him from the house to the car and with her when he died. He was 14 years old and in May I found a tumor on his right shoulder. The vet removed it and it came back and continued to grow. Two days ago she called me to tell me the Tide was walking around in a daze and could not lay down and would I help her the next day take him to the vet. I told her I would. It is so hard to see an animal get so sick. He was bairly breathing, he was cold and in system failure. He would not have lived the night. He was shaking and appeared to be in pain. The tumor had grown from his shoulder to his throat and he was having trouble breathing. We both cried and cried infact I am almost crying now. I called a couple of other friends last night when I got home and cried again. There was four of us crying last night for the beloved dog. We have gone camping with him, we have played many hours of fetch with him and all of the owner's friends are the dog's Aunties.

Oh how sad. I'm really sorry for your friends loss. I feel bad the dog had to suffer the way he did. It is never easy to lose our beloved pets. They are part of the family.

I am glad he did not have to suffer for long. I am glad she put him down. She was talking about just getting pain meds and letting nature take its coarse. I was glad to hear when she told me she was going to put him down. She does not talk to her pets so I laid on the floor and told him I was sorry I had to hurt him but he would feel no pain when it was all over with.

You are so right. She had a cat once that was so sick but she refused to put the cat down it made me sick. It was a blessing she put the dog down.

I think having him put down was a good idea. The pain meds wouldn't of really helped that much, plus it would not of helped his breathing.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know exactly what it's like to lose a "baby" both from dying naturally or especially when one has to make the lousy decision to put an animal down as I've done it. But at least now Tide is out of pain and is now romping around in Rainbow Bridge, and no doubt playing with some of my furbabies. Just think of all our pals we'll meet when we cross to that Bridge when it comes our time

That is so sad, I hate putting a dog down. The dog picture you posted looks like our neighbors dog, except he is a German Short Hair Pointer and he is getting up there, at least 12 years. He comes over and visits daily, I will be so unhappy the day he is gone..:(

It is amazing when we get attached to someone elses pets. I loved Tide like his was mine. I use to baby sit him. When his owner and I would go camping together Tided would sleep with me. I would cover him up in my covers. I do not have a sleeping bag, Tide and I would keep each other warm.

I'm so sorry. I know what it's like to have to give up an animal. I have never had one of mine pass, but I have had to give them all away. My Dog when I left new york. My kitten was stolen when I stayed at a hotel in georgia on way to florida. And now my Cat I had for 11 years when I moved to a house that doesnt allow pets.. and I miss them all

To have a cat stolen would be so hard because you do not know if they had a good home or not. I know Tide is at peace

That is so sad. About 2 weeks ago, my dog's father had to be put to sleep because of prostate cancer. We are good friends with his owner. He was 11. It's really like losing a member of your family. I have two German Shepards: Vito is 8 and Benny is 9 months. They are like my children. Best wishes to you and your friend both. Concentrate on the fun you had with Tide.

At least I do not live with her so I do not have to face not seeing him everyday. It will be strange going over to her home and not seeing him. Thanks for your kind words.

The dog was a beautiful dog. I've got a 9 year old black lab. He's got bad arthritis in his back. Tell your friend I am so sorry for her loss. You did the right thing. Would you want to lay around and suffer or would you want someone to take care of you?
