I have been a wrestling fan for many, many years, and it seems to me that anymore it is all just a money-making game. Times were when a special event was really a Special Event. How do they expect anyone to take them seriously when almost each week now they are announcing an upcoming pay-per-view event? With times being so hard for most people, it's surprising that so many attend these matches. I also know from what they cost on TV the last time I had cable that the price must be out of sight by now. Do you think they are overdoing it with so many of these events?

Well!!! in a way yes!!!!!!!!!they are really quite over doing it!!~!!!and may be that's the reason many of WWE wrestlers are moving to TNA!!!Kurt Angle, Team 3D, Christian, Rhyno, And now recently Boker T.
But you know what I only get a chance to see its special events as I see them on CDs!!!! so to me its qood enough!!!especially when there atleas two to three good matches in almost every event!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't mind buying the occasional DVD, but I could never afford to watch all the PPVs even if I had cable, Dadexter. I am just happy that I recorded many of them when I had cable, so I can now watch many of the older ones anytime I want.

Hmmmm!!! that's nice!!!you've got an old collection!!!at quite probably that must be some nice matches!!!
But I was wondering y can't you buy a DVD, you know the curriosity of latest matches can't be felt in a match that you've already seen!!!..you know you know what's gona happen!!!!!!!!!!!

They might not overview many of these events but they should also broadcast some of these events without pay per view so that other people can see it too. I mean they do need money otherwise why would they do that. they have to pay the wrestlers and stuff. In olden days there were not that many wrestlers but now there are more then 200 wrestlers in WWE.

On the contrary, soumodeep, back in the day they had plenty wrestlers-they just were not so organized. Each area of the country had their favorites. They did not all fly under the banner of WWE or ECW like they do now. They became organized into a huge business, and the wrestlers work under less than perfect conditions much of the time.

So you mean that before all the wrestlers were just in WWE and were not so organized. Maybe they were not but the thing is that today the pay has increased. The salary for the wrestlers are more now and thus they need to get the money from us to pay them and therefore more pay per views.

Yeah I do think they are going crazy with it. I don't know why, but they really are. They've been doing with for years...
Super Slam.. Wrestle Mania... Cage matches, Unforgiven.. and the list goes on! Oh yeah Royal Rumble!
Yeah it's all to make money, but I must admit it is very entertaining

Well, seems like UFC, IFL, and K1 are becoming more TV audience drawer than WWE, maybe because the fights are more physical and TRUE that even former WWE superstar Ken Shamrock tested his luck here and now making waves together with his brother. Maybe a good thing for WWE is make the fight a real one (no scripts, just a fight) and just save the scripts for skits.

I agree, NBABlogger, that it is a good thing that some are moving on and starting up new ventures.

i love watching wrestling. but i never had it on pay per view. since its not available in my country. and when the wrestlers superstars visited here to do a show, i cant even afford to buy the ticket to watch them. even if i have the money to watch i still wont spend that much money just to watch them. id rather wait for them in the cable.

My point exactly, larskie! They are making tons of money merely by being shown on cable TV. The pay-per-views bring in tons more, and I can't imagine how much their haul is on profits from merchandise sales and movies.

In agree that the WWF is just a money-making scam, and has been ever since I first watched it on TV. The portrayed Anger, the Faked Punches, and the Corny Hype, are all Part of the show, But there is one authentic thing. One real occurrance that makes it all worth while.
That is Showmanship. These Guys are among the Best Actors in the World, and they practise their fake holds, punches, and kicks, for hours before a bout. Imagine a 250 lb man jumping off the ropes and landing on his opponents chest. In real life the man on the mat would not have Snowball's chance in Hell of surviving, but watch him recover to win the match. This is showmanship bar none!

I totally agree with you, barehugs. The wrestlers are among the best actors in the world. I've been addicted to it for a long time and really suffered when I wasn't able to see any of the shows. The biggest problem I have with it is they have become so greedy(Vince), and should not keep charging so much for every "event" they put on.

Yes I do think they are overdoing it with sporting events but it is all about money. Most, if not all, the wrestlers are actors in their sport. I've never been a fan of wrestling.
Cable is pretty much out of sight but I believe it's worth it since I am a huge television fan. I spend way too many hours watching or listening.
If I was going to order pay-per-view it would be to watch a boxing match. We do know people who will order the match and invite several couples over to watch. It makes for a fun party. Some of the younger, college groups order a sporting event and charge per person to watch in order to recover the initial pay-per-view charge.

I know many people who are fans of boxing, carolbee, and some of them do order the special events, but I've never been into boxing-much too violent for me, LOL.

It is quite expensive, e.g. you could wathc a lot of WWE on Sky One in the UK, I remember my brother calling me when Kane was removing his mask,
Longtime ago now, anyway, Now it is on Sky Sports One, which I havent got, it is getting expensive.... and they dont even do ppv FOR Charity.

I am a huge WWE fan,but I never order the pay per view events. Usually they redo the same matches on the following episode of the show and if not, they show a lot of moments from the match. I don't have the money to go to these shows or to order them. I agree that they are a little overboard, but Vince is in this for the money and he is making plenty of it.

I was never a wrestling fan but there was a time many years ago when my son and brother were and they would go to as many Wrestling Matches as they could. Since wrestling has changed so much neither one of them are interested any more and although a lot of people still do attend I'm sure there are just as many who don't. Whenever my son and brother talk about wrestling they say how sorry they are that it's not like it used to be.

It has changed, ctry, almost to the point of being unrecognizable. I had given up watchin completely when they moved all the programs to cable, and only returned to watching it when they put one of the shows back on network TV.

I agree with you. These days it is more hype and lesser entertainment. The wrestlers to don't seem to be good enough. Let's hope they do better.

Of course it's all about the money.. Vince McMahon (sp?) says it all the time! They're all in the business to entertain us but most of all to MAKE MONEY! I feel that they have gone over board with the pay-per-view events. It's once a month and they're $40 each. Vince McMahon is a busines GENIUS! He's a BILLIONAIRE because of the ways he's come up with different branches of WWE and all the pay-per-view events. It's frustrating to the fans that don't have the money to dish out all the time though. As I myself am a huge WWE fan.

Yes, PSAa6, I used to order the pay-per-view events almost every time they came on when I had cable TV, and I almost went into meltdown when I had to let my cable go. Like everything else, though, I learned to live without it. Now I am happy watching Smackdown on network TV on Friday night.
